Lijssenthoek is slightly different from most of the WW1 cemeteries, in that it played the part of a field hospital and clearing station. In this respect, another unusual aspect is that most of the headstones in the cemetery are named, as the names of injured...More

I had wanted to visit my great great uncle's grave for a long time, and on a warm May afternoon I got my wish. His resting place is beautifully kept by the CWGC, and I would strongly recommend a visit to anyone with even a...More

We visited here whilst on a Leger tour and were very impressed with this large cemetery which was adjacent to four casualty clearing stations behind the lines here. You can still see some of the railway buildings where the injured were bought back from the...More

Came to visit the resting place of 201857 Private Henry Clarke (Worcestershire Regiment) a whole 100 years on - a truly beautiful, superbly maintained resting place in tranquil surroundings where many fallen ones lost the lives x RIP

I visited Lijssenthoek to find the headstone of a long forgotten and never spoken about great uncle who died in the Great War. Funny how times have changed and now we wear this as a badge of honour. To my knowledge I was the first...More

We had already visited Tyne Cot and Ieper (Ypres) so I wasn't expecting a lot. It was really great. The welcome center was very informative- this was a field hospital. I highly recommend it.

This a well kept (like all WW1 & 2 cemeteries in this region) cemetery. The respect afforded the young soldiers who naively gave there lives is very touching & I must say emotional. Adjacent was a large hospital that is no longer standing that many...More

I am trying to find a travel company who have a visit to the Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery on their in itinerary. One Travel Company, Door2Door did it this year, but are not doing it next year. I hope to visit Ypres and have been told I can get a train from there Poperinge, then a taxi to the cemetery. However, this is fraught with connection and time problems. I am hoping to visit end June/beginning July next year. If anyone has any information that would be helpful, I would be most grateful. Many thanks. Bill Jones

There is no public transport to the cemetary. You have to travel to Poperinge and then take a taxi. The address of the cemetary is: Boescheepseweg 35A
