It's an interesting visit to an prehistoric place. I enjoined the site and the explanation. But once I understand the idea I felt foolish to walk all the way round. I wish there were an escape exit for thous who had enough. And a road...More

This cave is a real treasure. Not only are you visiting the authentic site (not a reproduction), the art is stunning and the experience of being so close to our pre-historic ancestors is not to be missed. A visit to Pech-Merle will leave a life-long...More

We had a very knowledgeable English-speaking guide who was highly skillful in putting pre-historic paintings into a context for 21st century visitors. My experience was deeply spiritual. I highly recommend visiting these caves.

I dont know why few people mention this site for a visit. It was awesome. The cave itself was huge and the 30,000 paintings of spotted horses et al gave me chills. Great companion piece to our Lascaux visit. Easy to book English speaking tour...More

We booked onto a 10:30 English speaking tour and we're pleased we did so as the tour into the cave system was really interesting. The 40 minutes or so time spent in the caves is a glimpse into another world which is just fascinating.

Didn't think about visiting until day before so only managed to join french speaking tour. Language didn't matter the cave and the early art work speak for themselves. Not to be missed. Great little kiosk serving fresh sandwiches and frites.

Cool (literally and figuratively) walk to caves, with friendly and informative guide. The paintings were certainly thought provoking, as well as the story about how the cave was discovered by three adventurous siblings in the early 20th century.

This was a very pleasant visit, with nice authentic drawings. It was also nice because it was not too touristic in September. The location is nice and it is close to Saint Cirq-Lapopie which is definitely also worth a visit!

We drove from Rocamadour area which took about an hour, having booked online ahead of time. Glad we arrived early because the film in the museum center really informed our walk through the cave. Loved seeing so much art in its original settings. Guide was...More

Hi - the trick is to arrive early enough to see the video at the upper level of the attraction. It is subtitled. Otherwise, frankly, the plastic hand out is pretty useless as your guide is pointing stuff out on the walls... More

The best place to stop is Bouzies (7 km from the cave, it's the closest). Then you can go to Pech Merle by bike (be careful, the last 2 km go up strong) or by taxi (see Taxi Merle, mobile 06 03 15 41 67). You can also reach... More
