This was our 4th and last stop visiting the Diaolou near Kaiping. As westerners, we didn't find it interesting or worth doing. The traditional shopfronts were a block or two long and not particularly interesting or scenic. Many Chinese seem to come to Chikan for the movie history and sets. I'd skip this despite LP recommending it. We preferred the... More

This is part of the 'Old Town' where some Kung-Fu movies were filmed. With a nice weather it was pleasant to walk around, but in generally not so interesting. In generally, if you visit Kaiping, it could be worth to drop-by. The best part of the trip was a bus trip back to the town around the countryside and rise... More

You need to pay entry fee to enter. It has some old noble houses of old Shanghai era. It was the house that have many Chinese movies filming there. If you are not Chinese movies lovers, just treat it as heritage house visit, the architecture of old Shanghai style.

I visited this place last week. Not much to say really it killed half an hour. I was surprised they charged entry to this place as there's not much to do. If it wasn't for the fact I had seen a number of films that where filmed at this location it wasn't a complete waste of time.

Recommended by my relative to visit as it is an attraction, it is visited a lot during the New Years as I was told for it a place in which many Chinese movies were filmed at and for photos. There is a bridge to cross to get to the "Movie Town" which leads to a street of old stores and... More

Ok, it's a bit of a fake. Buildings used for movies are so by nature. But it's fun to see the Hotel de Paris there aand some buildings of other famous movies. But beside visiting the movie decors, don't skip the Chikan village. Nice little village on the waterfron with nice back-streets. Strange meditteranean architecture on a lot of buildings... More

I'm a big film fan and was looking forward to seeing where some famous Chinese movies were filmed. All you see are unimpressive film sets and imitation European buildings. Not sure why so many Chinese tourists are amazed, but there are better sights to see in the city for free. Unless you've seen everything in Kaping and have nothing else... More

This "movie town" will only be of interest to very keen fans of chinese dramas. For mist foreigners it would make for a boring visit, due to little knowledge about chinese actors and actresses, and the broader facets of chinese television in general. Give this one a miss ... we visited, but afterwards wished we hadn't ...

Chikan is located at the center of Kaiping City of Guangdong Province, about 12 kilometers away from Kaiping. Lying on the northern bank of Tanjiang River, Chikan is featured with western buildings, on the southern bank is the beautiful countryside. Chikan is the notable homeland of overseas Chinese so that the constructions blended the western and eastern styles. Wandering around... More

Two shoddy buildings that are currently in use, but otherwise very poorly constructed and run-down.
