Banteay Chhmar (the “Citadel of the Cat”) has been called the "second Angkor Wat” and was constructed by King Jayavarman VII, who also built Angkor Thom, Ta Prohm and Preah Khan. This remote and vast site is currently under restoration and visitors find a stunning interplay of temple and jungle.

I visited Banteay Chhmar temple December of 2015 , this temple was very good and so amazing, i saw a lot of bas-relief on the walls of this temple. I hope one day, i will go there again with my family or friends. I would recommend this temple for tourists.

We stayed at the CBT homestay for 2 nights. We have 3 young children and it was a great experience showing them rural Cambodia. Temples were fantastic and did not see another tourist whole time we were there. Our guide took time to show us other sites, like how they fish in the local lake and also picked fruit off... More

It took two and a half hours by car to go from Siem Reap to Banteay Chhmar. The temple is very quiet and has almost no tourists around, but you have to be really fit and healthy to climb over hundreds of collapsed rocks on the floor inside the temple. Remember that if you suddenly fall and have an accident... More

we visited Banteay Chhmar, using a guide of the Banteay Chhmar community based tourism. The know a lot about the tempel and about the rural live. Most of the temple are ruins, but there are beautiful reliëfs, statues and carvings. You can make a totaly program or the organisation can do. It is very well organised.

I got to visit Banteay Chhmar temple as I was making a day visit to a village nearby, what I like most about this temple was how quiet it was, there were almost no other people visiting when I was there, so it was a very spiritual feeling, most of the temple has collapsed, but there has been some reconstruction... I went by taxi and arrived about 10 AM. There were 2 other tourists there but they went a different way. I walked around the outer wall and climbed piles of stones inside. It seemed safe enough, no stones fell over. When I was leaving I saw one other guy. The main entrance wall (East side) has lots of well... More

It was a disapointing experience overall. We came mostly for the homestay experience and our expectations were high, since most of the reviews are very good. We were welcomed by Sokuon. He brought us to our homestay, but did not make any presentation. Basically: here is your room, and here the bathroom. Our hosts did not seem to speak english... More

Was there in 2013. Rode bikes to the temples--no one else was there. The home stay was a little uncomfortable (maybe their was no late night electricity so the fan didn't work--not sure), so take mossie repellent. If you are vegetarian, bring tofu or other substitute. The information hut was very informative.
