We recently took a Western Caribbean cruise and in Costa Maya we hired a taxi to go to the Chaccoben Ruins. It was much cheaper than going with the ship's excursion and so worth it. We had a guided tour by Lilia for just the six of us in our party. She was very knowledgeable and friendly and took as... More

We booked this tour while we were onboard Norwegian Getaway. We really didnt know what to expect as this was our first time. But we really enjoyed the tour. This is also perfect for families. They provided transportation. It was an hour ride from the port. The tour guide (Ezekiel) is very knowledgeable and made the tour fun. It was... More

I so appreciated this tour. I love the sun and the beaches and the food and drinks while on a cruise, but the history always makes me pause. To walk in the footsteps of those who came before brings if all home. Makes one appreciate all you have.

Booked this as a separate excursion while on NCL cruise. A bit of a hike to the Nativechoice tour office. About half a mile from cruise ship, but once there they really look after you. Our bus tour guide Elena and driver Saul were very good. About an hour bus ride to get to ruins. Once there we were turned... More

Even though only a small percentage of the ruins have been excavated you can still experience the legacy of this majestic civilization. We visited as part of a cruise ship excursion.

Kaci and Pedro made us feel so welcome! We loved the history and detail in our private, personal tour. Extra special mention to the roadside stop for home-grown pineapple. It was the best I've ever tasted. At a time when it's awkward being an American traveling in Mexico, they made us feel like family.

This is a great site - a collection of Mayan ruins that are accessible by a path around the village. You must be able to walk the almost 2 mile path, but it is hard gravel and an easy trek (I did it with a cane). The entrance fee is high ($55 when we went) . Having a guide is... More

Tour guide Kasi (part Mayan) was knowledgeable about both the site and the native flora, and varied her talk on Mayan history, and of the site, with information about the tropical trees and Mayan customs (such as "Day of the Dead") which were adopted by Mexicans and observed today. Starting her discussion in the new, air-conditioned minibus, she led us... More

The site was well preserved to show how it was discovered and then restored. The ancients abilities to know the stars in laying out the city is amazing. No instruments, calculators, but perfect alignment for winer/summer solstace. Temples not as grand as some, but still a great example of their ingenuity.
