The monasteries of Meteora should not be missed. They are located about 4.5 hours north of Athens but easy to find by car. There are also many tours available. We traveled by car. Sadly we only had time to visit 2 of them. Grand Meteora is perched on a pinnacle of rock and is large as the name suggests and... More

Late arrival with friendly staff. Good food overall and nice atmosphere. The first room when you enter is quite nice

You see tall rocks jutting out of earth touching heavens and monasteries on top of them. The sight takes your breath away. It is a must see location in Greece. ladies have to wear long skirts to enter them, but it does not matter if you do not carry one, they loan you a wrap around skirt. Ie if you... More

The views of Meteora, and from the various monasteries there, are just as wonderful as I'd always read. I spent a day and a half hiking around and just savoring the site in its entirety.

Amazing monasteris, in a beautiful scenery. There are six of them, we went to five, entered three. I think the best one to enter is the Meteoron. The others are smaller and much of the same. Every entrance 3 euros per person. Anyway, we enjoyed the walking/ hiking/ climbing to the others, although we decided not to go inside. One... More

You must must see the monasteries in the Meteora at least once in your lifetime! It's mythical! And make sure to wear good shoes and go while you can still walk and climb.

This region w/its monasteries is one of a kind and not to miss if you can fit it into your Greek visit. One night and 2 days will work, but it's much better to stay 2 nights/3 days. Stay in Kastraki rather than Kalambaka for the authentic village experience.
