    Wonderful walk.
It was lovely to walk along the river, take in the scenery, and enjoy the peaceful sound of the water. Yes, the trail is busy with various tour groups going either way - but despite the amount of “traffic” it was still wonderful. Cafés are dotted along the river every half an hour or so, and it was lovely to sit in the sun with a freshly squeezed pomegranate juice. Also I should note that a couple in our group had a baby in a pushchair, and although the path is doable with a stroller be prepared to carry it over some rocks protruding from the ground, and some of the wooden walkways.

    Underrated and likely under visited
We walked from Ilhara to Belisirma. It’s about a 7km walk and need several hours to walk and see all the caves along the way. It is a relatively easy walk, although some caves are difficult if you have restricted mobility. If you don’t have the energy I would recommend walking from Belisirma to the clutch of churches and back again. We paid 300 TL for a taxi back around. Completely over priced but I’m afraid there no competition.

    Wonderful experience of nature
We keep this place in our itinerary. It’s almost 2 hours drive from Goreme. It’s truly natural. Far away from madding crowd of tourists. Very few tourists visit here. There are beautiful shaped rocks on both sides of the river with crystal clear water. There are lots of trees around the both banks of the river. Birds are chirping everywhere. At the middle of the trail there is a cafeteria where you can enjoy drink and food by sitting on the chair placed on the river bed where the fishes are roaming within and ducks on the surface of the river. In the way back there is a restaurant on the bank of the river. Any one can seat on the Turkish style sitting arrangement on the river and have some delicious lunch.

    Very nice
This is a well organized hiking path with a perfect combination of a beautiful nature, history and geography. You can walk around 5km in the canyon. Be sure you have sun protection and hat. Also keep one bottle of water in your bag because there is only one place to buy in the canyon.

    Surprising Change
Ihlara is on the Green tour route which is a full day taking in other sites. We weren’t to keen to commit a full day. Instead we were able to get a VIP Taxi through one of the booking agents for the same price as two day tour tickets from Ortahisar. Three hour return trip, plus two hours walk was perfect. Entered the valley at mid point and walked to entry point one. Really beautiful scenery and a big contrast to ruggedness of surrounding area.

Entrance is paid, it is very affordable if you have or have a museum card (60 TL). I wouldn't recommend it in the midday heat. Shade is more suitable at the beginning of the day or near sunset. It is difficult for small children, the walking distance is too much, there are too many places to visit, there are generally churches in the valley, and you have to spare a lot of time, and you don't have to be hungry, otherwise you won't be able to survive...

We visited here as a family of 4 (children are 18 and 16). We parked for free in the town, near Baba Kebap, and then walked up the hill to entrance 1. There’s an entrance fee of 200 lira per person, but it’s worth it to maintain the area.

We didn’t have a guide but we did some homework and planned out a route. We opted for the 4km hiking route. Getting down into the valley is a little tough and you won’t get a pushchair down there, it’s steep, rocky and lots of steps. Once in the valley you walk alongside the river which is a lovely walk and not strenuous.

Along the way we explored the cave dwellings and various churches. It’s incredible to see how people lived. Unfortunately some of the churches have been graffitied over the original cave art, it’s such a shame.

At the 4km mark there’s a rest stop with a picnic area and lots of seating. There’s usually a cafe there but it was closed on our visit.

I believe you can go up to the road and get a taxi back to the start but we walked back as it’s not hard if you’re reasonably fit. Just lots of stairs up at the end to get back to the road.

The whole route is 35km long! So we only did a short section, thoroughly enjoyed it although it is a little busy in places.

We spent a couple of beautiful hours hiking along a section of this valley in the snow, mid March. It was so cold but wonderful....there is a cafe beside the river half way along and hot drinks were very much needed.
We did this as part of a full day tour from Goreme...incl Derinkuyu & Selime monastery with the highly recommended Gorgeous Tours

For my taste, an essential on a trip to Cappadocia. The valley has 4 entrances and a total of 14 km. We made the round trip between Belisirma and entrance 2, seeing several of the churches and stopping to eat at a restaurant halfway, very nice and well priced, with fantastic tables on the river. Highly recommended

If you are interested in nature and hiking, I recommend you not to leave Cappadocia Region without seeing Ihlara Valley. It is one of the longest valleys on earth. You may walk around 4km along the valley. You will pass Belisırma after 3km and finally you will meet Selime Monastry. You don't need get back to the begining. You are already tired 😁 So green, so peaceful. Not only a beautiful scenery but also a very old settlement. Don't worry the stairs are not that much long 🙂 Have a nice day in green

A valley where you can take some walks, nothing compared to our Alpine valleys, very very very touristy, where there are barges / restaurant
All very kind serve lunches not too cheap, as in the rest of the tourist places of Turkey
The madness is that you would pay 15€ x enter, but the Guide has avoided it ...

This hike and valley are so beautiful! I parked at the trail entrance in Ihlara (clearly marked on Google Maps) and hiked round trip to Bezirhane. Trail is very well marked even in the snow. One of the best 15 Euros I spent in Cappadocia and you ticket also includes the Selime Monastery/Cathedral which is far superior to the Uchisar Castle which I spent about 10 minutes at and would not recommend. Do youself a favor and make a day trip to Ihlara and Selime.

Entrance to the valley costs 15 euros per person (the ticket is valid for both Selime and this valley), but you can buy a card of 65 euros each, valid for three days, for the major sites of Cappadocia.
The easy route can get tiring if you walk for miles and miles, depending on how much you want to work! It is pleasant to walk along the stream. We walked 7.5 km, having to calculate that these kilometers would become 15 round trips.
Along the way you can admire the troglodyte buildings and many churches carved in tuff that have even preserved the colors in the frescoes. Disfigured in the past, some are really disfigured, but really worth seeing.
Whole crowds of children and families enjoy, each at their own pace, the walk and a few baths in the stream to catch some fish. Recommended.

This interesting valley is a paradise for trekking lovers offering 16 kilometers of extension. In any case, it is possible to cover only some sections. The Melendiz River has carved out a deep, verdant canyon over millennia, with rugged rock faces that offered a secluded retreat to Byzantine monks. For those who wish to explore the central part of the valley, there are two entrances: from the Ihlara Visitor Center you have to descend 360 steps to reach the valley floor (closed for renovation in May 2024). More convenient access from Belisirma, thanks to an asphalted road that descends directly into the valley. In this stretch there are numerous cave churches decorating with paintings more or less intact; the best are in the Fragrant Church (Kokar Kilise). Admission 15 € (includes Selime monastery). From Belisirma to the steps of the Visitor Center it takes about 2 hours round trip, on mainly flat ground. The whole path is well shaded and cool and can be walked throughout the day. About halfway along the way there is a pleasant refreshment point with rafts on the river. Numerous restaurants on the river also in Belisirma.

This gorge was highly recommended to us in the hotel, which is why we went there.

From Göreme it is about 80km by car, so about 1 hour 15 minutes. When we got there we were unfortunately disappointed. The gorge itself offers beautiful landscapes, but unfortunately it is not maintained. Which is a shame, as you also pay around 15 euros for admission. In a brochure there was a story about a restaurant that is located in the gorge by the water. This restaurant has many small 'bungalows' by the water with seating, actually beautiful, but not much investment is made there either. For dinner there is Turkish Gözleme, which was OK.

Conclusion: the gorge is beautiful and impressive because of the large rocks and the many churches, but you can see that the landscape is not maintained and the restaurant could also be better developed. So my conclusion is that if you have a day left in Cappadocia and you don't know what else to do, you can go there.
