The area
Address
Neighbourhood: Ikebukuro
Ikebukuro is an area of massive development. Several thousand tenants occupy two giant department stores and shopping malls, where all sorts of shopping and gourmet foods can be enjoyed. The 60-story building at the east entrance of the station, Sunshine City, is a landmark within Ikebukuro and features an aquarium, planetarium, theme park as well as an observation platform. The popular name for the western side of this area is "Otome Road" (Maiden Road) and there are many shops selling products related to anime with a female theme. It has rapidly become the worldwide headquarters for ‘otaku’ or geek culture.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

When we came to the corner of the park, we noticed that many smokers were on the street, as the smokers’ hut had already been demolished. We also noticed that lots of construction work was going on in the park. They were going to turn the park into an event square, although it will still be called a “park.”

After wandering around the Ikebukuro area it was nice to come across this park as a relief from concrete & buildings. It is even relatively quiet.

A few years ago before Covid, we noticed a huge construction going on in this park. Now we could see the changed park, which was more like an event park. When my friend and I walked on the footpath facing the park, a live concert was going on with a very loud music.

Lucky to spend a few hours during the Fukuro Festival at the park. Filled with booths serving food and drink, a stage constant with performers. Fun time.

The Ikebukuro West Entrance Park is a very nice place to visit! At night you can socialize and have couple of beers with people or enjoy some free amateur live shows (often organized in the evenings). Some matsuris (festivals) are also held there and you can find a lot of very nice food stands for the occasion. If you like Japanese dramas you've probably seen or heard of the IWGP (Ikebukuro West Gate Park) drama. It's very pleasant to see some of the places where the drama was shot! Also the park is surrounded by restaurants, karaoke, electronic shops, etc. Worth a stop.

I thought that it would be completed by October, but it was still under construction. There was no sign board to indicate how it would be.

I went through the park many times, while staying at Hotel Metropolitan. Cherry blossoms were in full bloom and were very beautiful. There is a smokers enclosure at a corner of the park, but some people prefer to smoke in a cafe. So I hardly saw people smoking on the side streets like in Australia.
