Ikebukuro is an area of massive development. Several thousand tenants occupy two giant department stores and shopping malls, where all sorts of shopping and gourmet foods can be enjoyed. The 60-story building at the east entrance of the station, Sunshine City, is a landmark within Ikebukuro and features an aquarium, planetarium, theme park as well as an observation platform. The popular name for the western side of this area is "Otome Road" (Maiden Road) and there are many shops selling products related to anime with a female theme. It has rapidly become the worldwide headquarters for ‘otaku’ or geek culture.

Every time I walked on this street, I was annoyed by the very loud advertisement coming out of the shops. So I decided to wear ear plugs for this time.

This is a lively street. Always crowded with young crowd even to late hours.
There are many restaurants, cafe and retail shops along the street. It also have game arcade, cinema and a few medical stores. You can also find a Tokyu Hands here. There is a JR station just opposite the road.

If you stay at Sunshine Prince Hotel, this is the street that you will have to walk in order to get to the hotel.

The options are vast in Ikebukuro, with departmental stores galore above the station, Sunshine City with Namja Town, Pokemon Center, Disney Store, Sanrio, and Ghibli stores, good selection of anime shops from Otome Road beside Sunshine, to Animate, Toranoana, and Melon books within Sunshine Dori, and all the various types of animal cafes you may wish to visit. You can find Uniqlo, Tokyu Hands, Donki Hontei within the area too, along with the electrical stores which also carries anime goods. One can easily spend just a couple of days to explore this area fully, plus the discounts are better here too compared to other more touristy areas.

We can spend hours shopping here as there are stores like Matsumoto Kiyoshi, Uniqlo, Tokyu Hands, ABC mart and Book-off. There are many restaurants here as well, but we always come here for our shabu shabu and gyutan fix. We have also watched movies at both Ikebukuro Humax and Cinema Sunshine Ikebukuro, both located on the same street. There's also a bowling center and at least two game centers here (and pachinko too, if you are interested). Fans of UFO catchers / crane machines will love it here.

It’s a busy lively street with many restaurants and shops. But it was very quiet early in the morning.

From Ikebukuro station this shopping street leads up to the hugh Sunshine 60 complex. It is always very and I really mean very busy with people. The atmosphere in this specific area feels very pleasant so walking here towards the Sunshine 60 complex is very enjoyable. On the way there you will pass a lot of very nice shops and restaurants on the left- and righthand side.

Ikebukuro is one of the biggest towns in Tokyo as Shinjyuku, Shibuya, Ginza. Sunshine Building is the most famous spot in Ikebukuro, which attracts a large number of visitors. This street connects Sunshine with Ikebukuro Stations. Several minutes from the station leads to this street and another minutes walk along this street will take you to the Sunshine Building. Just before the Sunshine Bld, you must cross the big avenue, so, avoiding crossing the street, there is underpass and the entrance lies along this street, which is convenient, as it directly takes you to the Sunshine Bld., without any interruptions. This street has plenty of shops, restaurants and convenience stores, drug stores, fast food chains etc.Lately, people from other nation are coming up. Ikebukuro being friendly.

Just went there for few hours only and found lots of shopping malls and restaurants. Not many special small shops indeed.

Very busy street full of shopping, good eats, drug stores, sega and sunshine city! Gets awfully crowded on weekend nights. Advise to go during the day time or be with friends if walking during the night. If you are traveling solo as a female many guys will try to get you to their club/restaurant so just keep walking.

It's situated near the East exit of Ikebukero Station about a two minute walk
Plenty of shops putting it mildly
It's near Sunshine city and Tokyu Hands Dept store
You won't need your GPS to find it!
Loads of reasonably priced restaurants with English menus
