The area
Address
Neighbourhood: Ikebukuro
Ikebukuro is an area of massive development. Several thousand tenants occupy two giant department stores and shopping malls, where all sorts of shopping and gourmet foods can be enjoyed. The 60-story building at the east entrance of the station, Sunshine City, is a landmark within Ikebukuro and features an aquarium, planetarium, theme park as well as an observation platform. The popular name for the western side of this area is "Otome Road" (Maiden Road) and there are many shops selling products related to anime with a female theme. It has rapidly become the worldwide headquarters for ‘otaku’ or geek culture.

Go for the view, queue for VR rides, nice relaxing spot
Jan. 2020
If you find yourself in Sunshine City Ikebukuro, this is the observatory at the top. The place is built with interactive installations through the walk around the building but I think the best view you get is the very first set of windows as you walk through the circus tent entrance.

There are some VR rides and games in the tower and the cannon ride one has the longest queue at about 30-45 minutes on the off-peak time I went. Definitely take your time wandering about first before queueing. The cannon ride was thrilling and immersive.

There is a Tully's cafe in the observatory as well, and it was quiet and peaceful during the off-peak hour I went. I waited for the sunset to take nice pictures there.

I don't see myself coming back again, but it's a nice place to visit in the area that is not as busy as the mall and streets in this district.

A good view of the city from this side of Tokyo
Sep. 2019
The sky circus observatory was something we found completely by accident, but offered a great view of the city at the top. What made this stand out was the interactive exhibits around the city view floor, including a hall of kaleidoscopic lights, and a hall of mirrors. There were swings and VR games too.

Great stop in Toshima

Not as tall as Sky Tree and in some ways more entertaining than Tokyo Tower. Well worth a visit for fantastic views and fun extras (light shows, installations). Amazing shopping and restaurants as well. Loved it!

Because we went to the aquarium we got a half price on this sky circus and it was so entertaining..u walk thru diff areas on ur own n the hi tech things they have r so amazing n fun!! We wish we had this in America! And of course everything is so clean!! We also got a bird's eye view of the whole Tokyo from the top 60th floor and also rode the fastest elevator in the world which goes up in 35 seconds n is so modern!!

Amazing view & VR - Well worth seeing
Apr. 2019 • Family
The view from this building is OFF THE HOOK. And then you also get a weird "circus" and amazing wall of peek a boo holes that contain fantastic little optic fiber (?) sculptures (don't miss these). There's also a cool projected digital art room with mirrors everywhere that's very Kusama. Then there are pay as you go VR experiences which are hilarious and fun.

Buy the ticket that includes the Aquarium (which is in another building but accessible through a long hallway). It's small but has some great exhibits.

Only hard part is finding this building in the first place. We wandered around for 20 minutes trying to decipher Google maps...but that's Tokyo for you!

worth the trip

you take a star lit elevator up 60 floors, to something that might just amaze you. what is that you might ask, well to start full 360 views of the Tokyo areas , on a clear day you can see all the way to Mt. Fuji. this is one of the less traveled viewed platforms for international tourists, you'll find mostly Japanese locals visiting here, but that's not always a bad thing, you can enjoy a bite to eat from a varying selection of deserts or hot beverage while relaxing at the lounge and watch the world pass you by. for those who want to know what's to do here its an interactive experience with lcd screens and projectors, there is a slight science aspect to it and will be more fun for kids under 12,

Nice observatory and more...

We visited this place in the afternoon with young child. It’s located in Sunshine city building on 60th floor. It can be reached by dedicated elevator so look for relevant sign boards.

Tickets can be purchased online or onsite. For us waiting time was not much.

Views are awesome over Tokyo skyline and you can see area from Roppongi Hills to Sky tree. It also has many entertainment items like funny mirrors, light shows and many selfi spots.

There are couple of VR shows however seats are limited and separate ticket is required. Overall it may take 2-3 hours to experience. There are few food options which are good but bit expensive.

Overall good experience.

Was a nice way to spend a few hours ...
The lift takes you up super fast and it’s full of fun and games as well as a spectacular view all the way around.

Kids were not sure what to expect but loved it and plenty of virtual reality games if they wish to fly off buildings .

It’s on top of a shopping complex with heaps of eating houses and cool cool shops that were really cheap .. so we made complete day of it .

Super easy to get to as well on the Tokyo Metro Lines

Nice thing to do if you have time

Good experience but probably won't go again

The tallest building in Ikebukuro and therefore it gives you a majestic view of the area from the top. There are several exciting VR games as well and therefore the place is suitable for family as well. The place is not free. You need to pay an admission fee and it is not cheap (can't remember the amount now). Further, the signage to this place is rather confusing.

The night view was fantastic and there’s a lot of high-tech entertainment for all ages. You get to see the city from all angels and take lots of pictures. It’s a lot more fun than the planetarium.
