Fun entertainment

Great district to walk around and gaze at all the lights. Lots of working girls too...but I think they'll cost you an arm and leg!

There may be some legit bars in this entertainment area of Shinjuku but too many scams that tarnish its reputation. Hawkers lure you in, and there are many stories of tourists being drugged and then finding their wallet gone and facing a horrendous drink bill. The police can't keep up with all of it. Caveat emptor.

In my opinion this place is less dangerous than other places in the world if you want to see the night life. Even you bring the kids with you. Many good restaurants and good price too. Many hotels & Guest house. Lot of shopping shops. I very like Kabukicho and I will go back there again surely :)

Pubs, bars, clubs, eateries & The Robot restaurant. At night it really pics up & very cool to experience with all the lights & stuff. A lot of neat places to eat. Very cool experience & worth checking out when you're in the Shinjuku area.

Definitely the place you imagine when thinking of Tokyo. All the lights, the vibrant and live streets, man young people, a lot of bars and restaurants. Definitely worth at least a visit, I would even recommend a stay.

The quickest way to Kabukicho is via exit D4 of the Shinjuku Nishiguchi station. Just cross the road & you will see the street sign above the kabukicho street. That area is with filled neon lights, countless restaurants & entertainment options. The robot restaurant is located within the same vicinity too. You can feel the energy of the place. At... More

Lots to see and do! Food, themed bars and lots of host clubs (wink wink). Hate to ruin the surprise but its a district known for its bar & sex scene. Lots of lights and people so it never felt unsafe. But if your not comfortable being approached for massages or gay men clubs then go with a friend. Piss... More

I am a 19 year old girl who travelled by myself to the Kabukicho red light district in Shinjuku, Tokyo. I researched this place a lot prior to arriving in Japan, and was attracted to all the photos of bright neon lights, and the exciting nightlife the place has to offer. I was not let down whatsoever. Although travelling by... More

Far and away more cleaned up than the outdated image of it as the seedy red light district of Tokyo which it used to be... I'd call it maybe a pink light district now. It's kind of like how Times Square (the former red light in New York City in the 1980s) is now a sanitized and commercialized ghost of... More

Plenty of shops, restaurants, small sushiya, in walking streets. Typical in the Japanese style life. Close to Shinjuku station 2min Walk.

Staying in Shinjuku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shinjuku is the commuting capital of Tokyo, and contains the busiest train station in the world. To the west, there's an office district with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Office at its center. To the east, there’s a district with long-established department stores, cinemas and theaters. Shinjuku Gyoen is a park originally built as the garden for the Imperial Household. It is quite famous as a venue for cherry-blossom viewing in March and April. In Shinjuku, many restaurants operate all night, and districts such as Omoide Yokocho (Memory Lane) or Shinjuku Golden Machi have back streets filled with tiny restaurants and bars that reflect each owner’s unique taste and style.
