Shinjuku is the commuting capital of Tokyo, and contains the busiest train station in the world. To the west, there's an office district with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Office at its center. To the east, there’s a district with long-established department stores, cinemas and theaters. Shinjuku Gyoen is a park originally built as the garden for the Imperial Household. It is quite famous as a venue for cherry-blossom viewing in March and April. 牛込柳町交差点から少し歩いたところにある臨済宗のお寺です。
鉄道唱歌の作詞である大和田建樹終焉の地でもあります。
また、有形文化財の古文書などが保存されています。

牛込柳町紀周辺のお寺をめぐる赤で訪れました。本堂は立派で，敷地内は美しく整えられており，是非訪れてゆっくり過ごしたい場所です。

「法身寺」をご存じですか？ ここへは地下鉄牛込柳町駅西口の大久保通りの北側の細い路地を入ったところにある臨済宗の寺院で、周辺には寺院が密集しています。
月海山と号します。由緒書きによると文化財を有しているようですが観覧はできません。珍しい鉄道唱歌の大和田建樹終焉の地と記された新宿区指定の史跡として紹介されていましたが、東海道五十三次の懐かしい景観が浮かんできます。
手入れの行き届いた境内、厳かな雰囲気が訪れる人々を優しく迎え入れてくれる寺院でした。

地下鉄・牛込柳町駅の北西方向の新宿区原町３丁目にある臨済宗の寺院で、大久保通りから細い通りを北側に入ったところにあり駅から歩いて２分位です。
ここ法身寺には、新宿区有形文化財が保存されていることが、説明板が２枚あるので分かります。
その一つは、新宿区登録有形文化財 (古文書) の「法身寺文書」で、もう一つは、新宿区指定有形文化財 (歴史資料) の「旧鈴法寺江戸番所資料」です。
ともに写真が付いているのでほぼ分かるが、現物が見れないのが残念です。
また、山門前に「鉄道唱歌」の作詞者で詩人の大和田建樹 (1857～1910) の肖像写真が付いた新宿区指定史跡の「大和田建樹終焉の地」の説明板があり、ここ法身寺の庫裏で亡くなった とのことです。

都営地下鉄大江戸線の牛込柳町駅から大久保方面に少し行って北へ路地を入ったところにある臨済宗のお寺です。このお寺は、鉄道唱歌などを作詞した大和田建樹終焉の地で新宿区の史跡になっています（ただし大和田建樹の墓は多磨霊園にあります）。その他、新宿区の指定文化財の古文書や普化宗（虚無僧姿の禅宗の宗派）の総本山であった鈴法寺江戸番所の資料が保管されています。比較的大きなお寺です。

大久保通りから細い路地を北側に少し入ったところにあります。対面には幸国寺の墓地があります。
この寺院には徳川家綱と綱吉の文書や江戸番所資料などを保管している様です。残念ながら一般公開はしていないようです。

宗派とか関係なく無料の座禅会を毎週ひらいているということで、地元ではそこそこ有名なお寺みたいですが、曹洞宗ならともかく、臨済宗にそういうお寺があったというのは初めて知りました。修行にかなりチカラを入れているお寺ということで、ちょっと怖い感じがします。
