There are countless opportunities to shop in the Shibuya and Harajuku districts, especially in shops that focus on Japan's "Kawaii" culture. The trendiest areas are around Shibuya’s Center district, Harajuku's Takeshita-dori and in Omotesando. If you need to recharge from all the shopping, you can easily refresh yourself in Meiji Jingu or Sasaki Park. In contrast, Ebisu has a more grown up ambiance of calm and cool. At the Museum of Yebisu Beer you can learn about the beer that was responsible for the town’s name, and enjoy dining at the popular noodle shops in the surrounding area.

The Oriental Bazaar was one of the shopping highlights of my trip to Japan. Conveniently located in Harajuku, its just a short walk from the train station and Takashite street. My friends and I thought it might be just your typical souvenir shop with tacky products but we were very pleasantly surprised! There was an amazing range of high quality and unique things available across three levels of shopping.
We were on the hunt for gifts for family and friends, so the first two levels were great for us. If you're planning on buying cheaper kimono/yukatas, save your money for the Oriental Bazaar. Whilst they do stock most of the typical designs you might see at other places, the prices are a bit cheaper than everywhere else and there are a really wide range of patterns in different sizes. Every cup, keyring, magnet and piece of crockery you can think of was there and displayed beautifully throughout the store and staff were polite and attentive.
The second floor had more expensive antiques and authentic beautiful kimono. All these things were out of our price range but it was nice taking a look at all the interesting things for sale.
Overall i would definitely recommend the Oriental Bazaar to anyone interested in buying japanese knick knacks and souvenirs.

We visited the Oriental Bazaar on our last day in Tokyo. Its a short 10 minute walk from the Harajaku station on the JR line. Compared to even the big departmental stores like Tokyu & Keio, this place has something for everyone. The prices are very reasonable. The staff are super nice too- when I explained to them that we had a flight to catch in a few hours- they made sure to pack up all my purchases super quickly. I bought a ton of t-shirts- they have a range ranging in price from $9-$18 each. Highly recommended for all the gifts you must bring home. Just a note- its closed on Thursdays, so plan accordingly. Dont miss this!

I love this place, it hasn’t changed at all since I last visited over 30 years ago. Top floor is antiques, middle floor souvenirs, lower floor clothes. Apparently you cant take your baskets upstairs, you need to pay for anything first (or leave your basket at the counter)

The Oriental Bazaar is like a souvenir department store - it has several floors of all things Japanese - from sake and tea sets to Kimonos, to samurai swords and even furniture. It is not badly priced and has some unique items that you don't find in your usual Japanese souvenir outlets. My mom and I had fun looking through all the stuff here, and wound up buying quite a few gifts for family. There were also some nice clothing shops nearby and we wound up buying some clothes too. ;o)
I would visit here after a stop at Nakamise shopping street at the Sensoji Temple - which offers a LARGE selection of run of the mill Japanese tchotchke, t-shirts and local food items. You could then round out your purchases with something more unique.
The main shop that we visited is in Harajuku Omotesando. To get there by train take: JR Yamanote Line Harajuku Station – approx. 5-min. walk from the Omotesando Exit; Tokyo Metro Chiyoda Line Omotesando Station – approx. 4-min. walk from Exit B4; Tokyo Metro Chiyoda Line Meiji-jingumae Station – approx. 3-min. walk from Exit 4. The store is closed on Thursdays.

We were on our last full day in Japan and still needed to get some souvenirs to give to family for presents. We tracked down the Oriental Bazaar and found exactly what we were looking for; lots of souvenirs with a variety ranging from very high quality to average, not the cheap junk you usually find from street vendors.
There are three floors of items. The basement floor has a large selection of clothing as well as a few smaller items such as magnets, mirrors, etc. The first floor has a large variety of items including wall hangings, tea sets, bonsai tree kits, prints, eating utensils, etc. The third floor is more of an antique shop with most of the prices being in the 10000 yen plus range - we didn't get anything from there!
After ten days in Japan the Oriental Bazaar was exactly what we were looking for. We were able to find a wide selection of items that interested us in a one-stop-shop. If you are looking for souvenirs in Tokyo keep this place in mind.

I visited Japan with my family in May 2013...I had heard about Oriental Bazaar from friends, but did'nt think I would like it much since I donot usually enjoying buying kitschy souvenirs.....
We went to oriental Bazaar anyway, since we were in the area and had some spare time.....
I was absolutely delighted to see the stuff they had...everything is good quality, reasonably priced, most of it in good taste...absolutely the kind of stuff you want to bring home for gifting to friends and family and maybe even for displaying in your home to give that little bit of Japanese touch. They have everything from Japanese fans, to kimonos, little Japanese Dolls, Jewelry boxes, scarves, little handheld mirrors etc to large furniture. There is a basement plus 2/3 floors and everything was interesting. If you go here you don't need to bother with souvenir shopping anywhere else...we saw some lovely Japanese crockery here which was made in Kyoto and we thought we should wait to buy such stuff till we get to Kyoto - we seriously regretted that decision...everything we saw in Kyoto (atleast the few places we visited) was much more expensive and it was harder going from shop to shop trying to see more options....
So don't miss this place......it's well worth the visit

The store is really pleasant and convenient and very roomy even when a lot of people are in. There are 2 floors and plenty of gifts to choose from - clothes, ceramics, magnets, towels, etc. Everything is also really well packed. The best place for souvenirs.

This was a one stop shop for good quality Japanese souvenirs such as China, textiles, art and typical stuff like key rings and t-shirts.
It’s also really well priced.

You can get quite a fair bit of Japan souvenirs here, but I am not sure, the things just does not appeal to me. Perhaps it's the decor, or the selections, I am not sure. I went in, made a round and came back out in ten minutes.
Give this place a miss. I am sure you can get better selection elsewhere. However if you want a one stop shop, you can try here. I won't.

I spent two hours in this shop buying very unique souvenirs. At no stage did I feel pressured to buy. We had problems finding souvenir shops in Tokyo so once I found the Oriental Bazaar I did 90% of my souvenir shopping here. They also did not charge me the sales tax. They gave me a sign to read about the tax process stating that I needed to carry all the items in my hand luggage. After checking on this site about the process I decided to put them all in my checked luggage. At customs they took out the copy that was in my passport from Oriental Bazaar but did not ask to see my purchases. Most of my purchases were made in the lower floor.

Is the Original Bazaar out of business? Looks like the old Bazaar building was knocked down and replaced with a new building occupied by Dior at the moment (March 2023).

Scusate. esiste un indirizzo di posta elettronica per contattare l'Oriental bazar? Io scrivo dall'Italia ed ho desiderio di acquistare un kimono di grosse dimensioni, con hakama pants e haori... Potete aiutarmi in qualche modo o in altro modo ???

Are the souvenirs here authentically made in Japan? From previous visit, I found some of trinkets sold at touristy areas in Japan are actually made in China.
Written 9 August 2019
The good ones are Japanese but some of the smaller “trinkets” are imported.
