Neighbourhood: Odaiba / Shiodome / Shinbashi
Odaiba is an entertainment hotspot with a giant ferris wheel, concert halls, amusement arcades and lots of shopping. It also boasts Oedo-onsen-monogatari, a hotspring that recreates old Edo-era ambiance and is very popular with foreign visitors. Shiodome has ultra-modern office buildings where you can often find restaurants with a great high-rise view of Tokyo. The neighboring area of Shinbashi is a district of much older commercial buildings and it's a great place to join 'salary men' enjoying a drink and snacks at street stalls under the railway bridges after work.

I'm a fan of Japan Garden, even if this one didn't arouse great emotions in me.
The meticulousness and precision with which they are kept no longer amaze me.
The garden is quite small, offers several plants of Japanese black pine, the leopard plant, azaleas.
Some carp and several species of ducks.
The route is short, in a perimeter context of barracks, offices and unfortunately cranes, which ruin the context.
Too bad, ridiculous entry price, if you want to dedicate half an hour to it, it's doable.

In 1678 (Enpo 6), when the senior councilor Okubo Tadatomo built a mansion on land bestowed by the 4th Shogun Ietsuna, he is said to have called in a gardener from the feudal domain of Odawara to create a garden.
At the end of the Edo period, it was the Shiba Mansion of the Kishu Tokugawa family, and in 1871 (Meiji 4), it became the property of the Arisugawa family. In 1875, it was purchased by the Imperial Household Ministry, and in 1876, it became Shiba Rikyu.
In 1924 (Taisho 13), the year after the Great Kanto Earthquake, it was bestowed upon the city of Tokyo to commemorate the marriage of the Crown Prince (Emperor Showa). The garden was restored and improved, and opened to the public in April of the same year.
When I went, it was the 100th anniversary of the opening of the garden. (There were no special events.)
The day I went was Greenery Day, so admission was free.
With Kiyosumi Garden in the morning and Shiba Rikyu Garden in the afternoon, it was inevitable to compare the two.
The sense of scale is clearly different, and the garden was like an oasis surrounded by skyscrapers.
You can particularly feel this when looking down at the large pond from the top of Mt. Daisen.
Seawater is no longer used, but the garden was originally built on reclaimed land, so it still has a subtle rocky beach feel.
If I were to write something negative, it would be that because the garden is large, the sights are scattered all over the place, and it cannot be denied that it has a somewhat rough feel to it.
It feels like it's up to the viewer to decide whether a garden with condensed sights or a garden with a large scale is better.

It could be called a park in front of Hamamatsucho Station. I happened to get off at Hamamatsucho Station, so I decided to stop by for a bit. It's a true oasis in the city, and if I had a little more time, it felt like a "garden" I'd like to stroll through at my leisure.

I have visited several times as this garden is such a wonderful break from the busy concrete jungle that surrounds it. The winding pathways and still water will refresh and energize you at the same time. Although you can see tall sky scrappers and a shinkansen line passes right next to the garden it's not distracting at all from the traditional beauty.

Peaceful and quiet even with a lot of people visiting. Be sure to check out the teahouse and walk along the harbor waterfront.

An hour or two here provides a gentle relaxation from the tumult of Tokyo beyond its walls. An easy walk from the fish market these gardens have a long history from Shogun times. Lakes, ancient trees, restored buildings, garden vistas and massive walls all provide points of interest and photos.
Never crowded it provides a must see spot.

We discovered this park by accident, right next to Hamamatsucho train station (JR). Entrance fee is 150 yen. There is a lake you can walk around with many turtles on the rocks. Nice spot to have lunch and a break from train hopping and sightseeing.

We asked the cab driver to take us to Hama-Rikyu Garden. She dropped us off, curbside, and we unwittingly strolled into Kyu-Shiba-Rikyu Garden. Not an outstandingly beautiful garden, but a pleasant oasis from the city surrounding it. The solitude was enhanced by the dull, rainy weather which kept most people away.
It wasn't until hours later that we discovered we were not at Hama-Rikyu Garden - and we never did get to visit it!
