It enshrines Sugawara Michizane who is known as a scholar, poet and politician in the Heian Period. Many students, scholars and artists visit the shrine wishing their success, in particular in the New Year's Holidays. In late April and early May, you can enjoy beautiful Japanese wisteria over a pond.

A real haven of peace, a shrine with beautiful gardens. Definitely one of my favourite temples/shrines in Tokyo.

I made a special trip to this place just to see the wisterias. They definitely look very beautiful in the pictures. We came here on May 4, but 99% of the wisterias are gone already. There were only a couple strands left. I was quite disappointed, but was glad that I came anyway to see bits of it.

Visited Kameido Tenjinsha shrine which is a famous place for flowering wisterias. Unfortunately it is still early May and no flowering wisteria can be found on the trellises. There is a pond covering the area with lots of turtles basking in the sun on swimming with huge black carps. There is also 2 short red bridges going to the main... More

As a tourism attraction, Kameido Tenjin is not as famous as other shrines in Tokyo but it's still an interesting place to visit, specially in late April when the wisterias are in full bloom. Their wisteria gardens may not be breathtaking like the "Ashikaga Flower Park", arguably Japan's most beautiful, but are certainly charming and have more cultural background than... More

First visit to Kameido Tenjin Shrine in the afternoon of Monday, April 25, 2016. Every early summer, the Wisteria Festival is scheduled and this year is from April 16 to May 5. It is not in full blossoms but very attractive view.

If you are in Tokyo in mid April-early May, take the time to visit this "Wisteria Shrine" tucked away in a bustling neighborhood. We visited during the Wisteria festival and enjoyed the food stands, crafts, and people watching in addition to the beautiful flowering vines. Hard to believe so many incredible photo opportunities could be in one small area-- great... More

This shrine has a lovely pond in front of it that can calm a person when Tokyo gets to be too much. The wisteria is lovely in bloom but at that time the grounds are very popular and crowded so it loses some of its charm.

Nice shrine hidden in area surrounded by buildings. Quiet place to visit. Plants were not out in Dec but should be beautiful in spring. No charge to visit.

Nice little Shrine thats only a short walk from main street Kameido. Good place to take some good photos and when I was their, there was a lot of parents bringing there children to the Shrine in tradition clothing for best wishes and pictures. A great place to take some time out.
