Suitengu Shrine which is supposed to be a power spot that facilitates childbirth continues its popularity for obvious reasons. Even in today´s Japan children are born, and mothers pray for an easy birth. The new shrine building which now sits on top of another new shrine related building is beautifully carved receives a steady stream of worshippers.

Above the busy street the light wood of this shrine stands out. Sitting iin a modern architectural setting, the stairs to it are hidden to the right, ground level. Did not have time to figure out the context, but the shrine keeps its spiritual distance, yet is in the heart of a busy district.

I went to Tokyo on business in May and September 2016. Suitengumae is a quiet neighborhood next to Nihonbashi. After I finished my business meeting, I first went past Tokyo City Air Terminal (TCAT) and the Royal Park Hotel. This is actually a very convenient place to stay because TCAT is very convenient for going to Narita Airport and the... More

It is located just down the street from TCAT and is not that impressive externally but it is ionteresting inside. It has been rebuilt and some of the old shops have gone but inside it is a typical Japanese Shrine. This Shrine is known to assist fertility and is popular with Japanese people for that reason.

Since I have missed visiting the imperial palace (closed) on my last day, I was looking for seeing a few traditional buildings in Japan. It was a pleasant few hours spent on my last day in Tokyo.

This shrine was just rebuilt. Opened in April 2016. The new shrine was made in the traditional way from wood and copper roof etc. The previous shrine, although nice, was painted pre made concrete. This is now Tokyo's newest shrine building. Very clean and well made. Doesn't have the traditional old feel yet, but a good example of perfect craftsmanship.

This is fascinating , easy to get to and very Japanese. The surrounding area has extensive markets and stalls full of great street food and loads of souvenirs.
