I visited this amazing place during a business trip near Woslztyn. Having heard about it and also being a fan of steam trains, it was a must. The 'parowznia' is located in the town and the first site one sees is the row of tired looking locomotives stadning on the siding waiting (hopefully) renovation. However, the core of this still... We had six days in Wolsztyn which included 2 full days of steam train excursions organised by the Wolsztyn Experience, which were excellent value. The highlight was the annual steam train parade, with engines from all over Europe, which included engines passing by singly, then coupled in twos and threes, and culminated in all 10 engines coupled together with whistles... The great collection of all the trains-related stuff! Some have more than 100 years, and that's incredible! From trains which are still able to run to papers and tickets. I was there during the museums night and it was really cool to get through all this stuff with the guide. So I really do advise you to get the guide... More

This is what we were in town for: the Wolszstyn Experience and locomotive parade. Unfortunately there were only three locos in steam this year, with another arriving late, but the spectacle, the atmosphere, the noise and the smells - and all the 'plinth' locos -made up for that.

Myself and a friend took a PKP Intercity diesel train journey between Poznań Glowny and Wolsztyn (29.07 PLN each way, 90 minutes). On arrival turn right out of Wolsztyn railway station and walk in a straight line (parallel with the railway track) for 10-15 minutes - you'll see the steam locos in the distance. Premises contain the last steam locomotive... More

I wanted to take my father away for his 61st birthday and he's always wanted to drive trains since he was a boy. Well, there is probably no other place in the world you can still be instructed to drive a steam loco on a mainline route with passengers and keeping to a schedule!!! We did just that, and the... This is actually a review of a visit in May 2012, and I don't know how I missed writing my review for so long!! I somehow convinced my long-suffering wife to spend a week of our holiday in Wolsztyn while I fired and drove (under close supervision!) a real, full sized, serious regular passenger train service 80 kilometres each way... If you are any sort of railway enthusiast, then this is a must do. I believe that this is probably the only place in the world where you can actually drive and fire a steam locomotive on a fully operating passenger service. But do not fear, the Polish crew are on hand to ensure that everything is done correctly and... More

This is a 'one in a million' chance to be on the footplate of a mainline steam locomotive. The journey from Wolsztyn to Poznan takes approximately an hour and a half with 21 scheduled station stops. The Polish Crew speak basic English but it is enough to understand what they require you to do. The accommodation is in a large... More

My son and I went for a week to the Wolsztyn Experience in December 2012, with five days driving and firing the steam locomotive on the train between Wolsztyn and Poznan. Arranged as a fiftieth birthday present, it was magnificent and highly recommended. The engine crews were friendly ad helpful - it is remakable how few words you need to... More
