- Ian CNottingham, United Kingdom33 contributionsA visit to remember.Following a great drive through the mountains on switchback roads you arrive in a haven of peace and elegance. Even the toilets were in a attractive building and neat architectural tricks abound. Relaxing seats in the gardens to take in the scene were a bonus. While the house was fascinating reflection of its time the highlight for me was the studio.Left as it was at the time of the artist’s death. Light streams in from high windows illuminating an architects work space and a dynamic artist’s workspace at the other end. A stunning studio still full of life decades after Manrique’s sudden passing.Visited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten 16 November 2023
- Zloves2travelLuxembourg32 contributionsAn intimate experienceLess "spectacular" than the Fundación or other places Manrique designed (Manrique wasn’t done with the house when he tragically passed away), but much more intimate. It’s seems like time has stopped there at his death, his personal belongings and atelier still as he left. It gives you a glimpse of the person behind the artist. If you want to capture the spirit of Lanzarote and of Manrique, the visit should be on your list.Visited February 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 13 February 2024
- Sevi S6 contributionsAmazing visit with young kidsAmazing experience, was able to do with 2 young kids. Aged 3 years and 5 months. We were able to hold our youngest on us and the older one walked. Not best for buggies as load of stairs and no flat floor. Its an amazing museum with all the insight around the most well know artist in the region. Count 1 to 1.30 hr for the visitVisited February 2024Travelled with familyWritten 28 February 2024
- Caroline W30 contributionsA comfortable intimate space left behind by a talented artist and activist. After visiting The Foundation and the LagOmar properties in that order we felt that seeing his final home at the end of our sightseeing was a fitting tribute to the great Cesar Manrique. To see his master paintings in situ in his and his guest bedrooms was humbling. He unfortunately did not live long enough to finish and then truly enjoy this beautiful tranquil space but he surely left his love for his homeland behind in his architecture, paintings and sculptures. The large studio filled with all the trappings of a prolific artist was very poignant, especially seeing the blue overalls draped over a chair next to the last piece he worked on, just as if he had just taken them off. Lanzarote is made deeply rich from the love of this man and his vision to recreate the wonders of his homeland.Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 10 June 2024

Limited parking outside (A few cars) - otherwise, park in the village and walk up. Built by Cesar Manrique, it is a fabulous house / museum to visit and well maintained.
Photos are not allowed to be taken inside the house.
As well as the house and surrounding gardens, there is also a work studio on the site.
Consider taking a bit of time to listen to the video (outside / around the corner) that talks about Cesar Manrique. Would recommend visiting.

Not particularly easy to find (and parking is probably a challenge in the height of the season), this place is a gem, and worth the effort (although unfortunately it is not possible to take photos inside). Very different to the place in Tahiche (also well worth a visit), this has a real homely feel to it. The studio is exacely as Manrique left it on hte day of his fatal accident, and it is a great insight into how he worked. Definite visit !

Definitely one of the highlights of our few days in Lanzarote. Really nice to see how Cesar lived and see his design style and architecture. It’s a good contrast to the foundation which is more like a gallery than a house. This feels more real and is quieter, which makes it more enjoyable. highly recommended.

If you follow Cesar Manrique, this will be the holy grail, for others it’s some blokes house dating back to the 60’s/70’s.
Well kept both inside and out along with the large artists studio, I don’t think it warrants the €10 entrance fee.
No car park here, just parking along the roadside if you can find a space.

First day out to visit this amazing place. So much to see and was well worth the visit.
Could not believe the amount of photos and artwork inside this home he engineered into the landscape.
Lovely quotes from Cesar around various walls.

Last home of the artist Cesar Manrique, which is preserved as it was after his death.
The house is beautiful and, as it could not be otherwise, it has many elements built and made by the artist himself. On a terrace they play a documentary video where they tell you the impact that Cesar Manrique had on the island and how important he was for it.
You can also visit the workshop where he worked.
It is a highly recommended visit for admirers of Cesar Manrique. However, the visit is not guided. They give you a brochure where they explain the different rooms, but in my opinion the visit would gain a lot if a guide explained it to you. The price, €10 per adult, also seems excessive to me for not being a guided tour.

Bear in mind, this is Casar's own home later in life. It reflects the artistic spirit of Cesar especially his studio in the grounds.
It looks just as though Cesar had stepped out for a moment - which of course he did.
It is a complete contrast to the quirky architecture he's known for.
A short tour which is controlled by the team to ensure not too many people are admitted at any one time.
An honour to see some of the personal affects which clearly meant so much to the man who was, and still is, the essence of Lanzarote.

We bought a joint entry ticket with the Fundación and enjoyed both visits. This house was lived in by Manrique from 1988 to his death in 1992 and is far more conventional than the Fundación building. That said the house gives a good impression of the man with many personal items and some interesting artworks by Manrique and others. The architecture blends with surroundings and there is an extensive garden and you also have access to the artist´s workshop as he left it at his sudden death in a traffic accident. Less spectacular than the Fundación but still a worthwhile, interesting visit.

Beautiful home/now museum of artist Cesar Manrique, a true visionary. He studied and worked in America and many European art cities on the continent. He came back to Lanzarote with fresh ideas and had friends in high society who allowed him to ensure that high-rise buildings were banned in Lanzarote.

I didn't know about Cesar Manrique before coming to Lanzarote and I feel a lot of attraction for the sense of beauty and the way of living of this unusual and engaged man.
His Casa if for real the place he lived in and the scenography made me feel Manrique will appear at any minute.
This is a lovely house and workshop in the middle of palm trees.
I only regret there is too few pieces of art to get to know the painter in him. Surpringly, no pictures are allowed inside, whereas it's allowed outside and everywhere at the Foundation.
Worse seeing as well as the Foundation. The two places complete themslves. Do not hesitate to visit the whole Manrique production (Mirador del Rio, Jardin de cactus, Cuevas de los verdes, Jameo del agua...) Do not miss his tomb (right hand mausoleum when you enter) in the sweet little cemetery at the entrance of Haria !
