What is not to love? A truly remarkable place, we had originally come to France to visit my wife's great great grandfathers grave in Rocquigny-Equancourt road British cemetery and having visited in the morning I asked if we could visit Vimy, I have lived in...More

We visited here with our young children on our way travelling through France. We walked around the site ourselves, visiting the memorial, the visitors centre, the preserved trenches, and the cemetery. The memorial itself is very moving, with names engraved around the base. The visitors...More

We visited as a family of four with teenagers. We could not believe how close the enemy trenches were , how close the fighting and the complete devastation caused by mines. It was very sobering. The monument is a beautiful moving tribute to the fallen.

We had visited the Vimy Memorial 11 years before, when the monument was under restoration and shrouded in plastic. They have done an excellent job in the restoration and it is a fine tribute to the sacrifice made by these young Canadians. The monument is...More

The Canadian government is to be congratulated for not only creating an excellent visitor centre, but providing a first rate guided tour. Down into the tunnels we went and listening to our knowledgeable guide we could visualize the awful situation our troops faced. The interactive...More

Having travelled from Ypres in Belgium with our excellent tour guide Jacques with Flanders Battlefield Tours, we arrived at this Imposing memorial to Canada which I have to say was truly magnificent and could be seen for miles. Of course the first thing we did...More

A very impressive tribute to the troops that fought for the strategic ridge in World War I. The memorial along with the trenches, tunnels, crater-filled fields and cemeteries gave us a very good impression of what happened in 1917 and why.

What a real gem of an experience. it's authentic informative and has great free Tours given by young enthusiastic Canadian students who were full of pride and wanted to describe with enthusiasm the gallant actions of their forbears.

Would definitely recommend visiting if you are near. They seem to have got every aspect right; it is a solemn and beautiful memorial to the Canadian soldiers, the new museum is interesting but not overwhelming and the preserved trenches and bomb craters give a sense...More

I believe a Vimy Ridge should be mandatory for all Canadians. This was my second visit to the site in 2 years, and just as meaningful, if not more, than the first visit. The more I learn and understand about Canada's role in WWI, the...More

I think that the memorial and trenches wouldn't be an issue physically, but the tunnels where you are climbing up and down stairs, metres underground, could be with children that age. You might ask the guides if you could... More

Oh, and the students are a credit to their nation and the poor souls who fought so bravely and made the ultimate sacrifice so far from their families and homeland.

Hi again Brad, I wanted to add to my original answer. I took a peek at the street view of Vimy (village) on google maps and see that there are indeed places to eat even a "Allo Pizza" which might appeal to the little ones. I... More
