Absolutely one of my favorite places on earth. This hidden gem features an old fortress that you can climb very high into & look out over the phenomenal natural rock foundations all around it. If you are in Vidin, you would be greatly missing out...More

Small Bulgarian city has to offer really attractive views on mountains, rocks, monuments and Astronomical Observatory. Great walk through and around the fortress, amazing view from the top of this fortress/rocks. It's worth to spend there a couple of hours.

The fortress is built into the rock formations. Interesting geological area. When we were there, there was a dense fog. We still climbed to the top of the fortress rocks, but there was no view. Nonetheless, the fog and light covering of snow were beautiful,...More

Didn’t know what to expect but this was a wonderful geological formation with a well preserved/restored fort. Quite a hike to the top, but well worth it. I guess you could take a nasty fall. The town has a hospital

Re-routed my Bulgaria/Serbia trip just to go there and it was totally worthwhile. It is a bit far from Sofia, so best to stay in the town (which has amenities) or Vidin if coming from the south. I actually hired a cab driver, Milan, from...More

As a fortress or castle, Belogradchik is kind of plain. But the setting as it incorporates the soaring rock formation and overlooking many beautiful formations is outstanding! The high stones are made accessible through stairs. The signs are also interesting, describing one of the most...More

I stopped here as part of a river cruise on the Danube. The rock formations are very impressive. The views from the top make the climb worthwhile.

this is a combination of an old fortress and a phenomenon of the nature. recommended for a short visit, nothing exceptional, but still worth if one is close. the tourist information, however, is a disaster

If you're afraid of heights, don't go near the edges of the rocks, because they may freak you out. It is however totally worth it! The stairs are pretty steep, but are secured enough.

The rocks are the fortress and surround the fortress. The parking is next to the entrance to the fort. Get a map or a topo-map to walk the rock formations. They cover a large area at different levels. When we visited the... More
