Traditional red temple at Mt. Takao. Statues of the gods, one with a long nose (Big Tengu) and one with a crow beak (Small Tengu), can be found at the temple. People come here to pray to them for good luck.

The woodwork and the paintings on the outside were gorgeous. If facing the front of the shrine, there is a cool looking Inari shrine to the left. Came down from Takao late so made it to the shrine before it closed around 1500. Want to...More

An ancient temple on the way to the top of Mount Takao. It is a Buddhist temple on Mount Takao. The temple offers a serene and calm surrounding and wonderful views around it.

This is a wonderful part of the Mt. Takao experience--one of several beautiful buildings along trail #1.

Just a short drive from Tokyo, Mt. Takao/Yakuoin Temple was a delight to visit. A path guides you up to the temple and summit. They say you can see Mt. Fujii at the top, but alas we were there on a cloudy day.

Too many tourists & sellers of goods for tourist!! I did not enjoy my visit....it was more like a street market with all selling the same things.

Of course there are many temples to visit throughout Japan, however it is nice to visit temples that are not surrounded by tourists and are more popular with the locals. Got a good atmospheric feel here and as with many temples it was simply beautiful.
