About
Gliding quietly through the sky in a gondola at Arthurs Seat Eagle, you could be forgiven for thinking you’ve been transported a million miles away, rather than one hour’s drive from Melbourne. With uninterrupted views, framed by swaying gum trees and birdsong, grazing kangaroos and the trace of distant coastlines, you are immersed in a truly majestic Australian landscape. Named in honor of the Wedge-tailed Eagle, indigenous to the area and revered in local Aboriginal lore, the Eagle experience is one of flight through an area steeped in history and surrounded by nature. Gliding above and past the trees, you ride inside comfortable, all weather and fully accessible cabins. It’s an awe-inspiring journey as you ascend quietly up Arthurs Seat to the summit station.

- Danielle M1 contributionA smooth ride up the hillWe went on a Saturday afternoon. There weren’t too many people when we arrived. The ride is about 15mins, and is very smooth. There are many picnic spots available and some bbqs. Definitely take your picnic basket with you. There are no bins nearby so keep that in mind. The onsite cafe is definitely worth a stop too! Pricing is a little high, but you don’t go every weekend so it was worth it.Visited March 2024Travelled with familyWritten 2 March 2024
- kathy fCastlemaine, Australia5 contributionsFantastic experienceHow wonderful all the staff are at the Arthurs seat Eagle. From the base station to the summit station and the cafe staff. I had my uncle who is now 93 years visit the Mornington peninsula last week and we did a trip up and back on the Arthurs seat Eagle. I cannot express how fantastic the staff where for us it made his journey very memorabile.Visited April 2024Travelled with familyWritten 29 April 2024
- Jeffry bEssendon, Australia13,699 contributionsGondola makes Arthur's Seat view worthwhileArthur's Seat Eagle is made up of gondolas that begin at the base of the hill known as Arthur's Seat and progress to the top. The trip is worthwhile because you can get an spectacular view of Port Philip Bay and the suburban area around the Bay. Mostly people drive to the base and get the view from the summit by taking the Arthur's Seat Eagle to the top before returning to the base in the gondola. Arthur's Seat Eagle is not very expensive, it's worth taking the Eagle if you are close by in the Port Pilip Bay area. The extensive view makes it worthwhile taking the Arthur's Seat Eagle.Visited March 2024Travelled with familyWritten 19 May 2024
- Connector43459753573Irymple, Australia13 contributionsAmazing viewsMy family and I went in late September had a beautiful day weather wise, very friendly staff and exceptional service done the full trail and seen some magnificent wildlife. There was enough stops along the way to break up the walk with a few lookout points which had amazing views. We thoroughly enjoyed the couple of hours we spent there only thing I could fault was the toilets not having hand drying facilities when we went.Visited September 2024Travelled with familyWritten 29 September 2024
- OneLenaSingapore, Singapore200 contributionsAmazing viewsThis is a must-do activity at Mornington Peninsula. Each cabin can seat up to 6 people. The cabins are open on the sides, so the air is fresh and clean, but can get cold, depending on the season you visit. The view is spectacular! Clear, blue water, gorgeous skyline. Nice views of the trees too.Visited September 2024Travelled with familyWritten 6 October 2024
- Rebecca A4 contributionsLovely day outThe gentleman who served me was so lovely. We took clients who live with a disability out for the day and they loved it! Although we are locals, it was our first time on the Eagle. Terry was also lovely and we all had a great day. Tysm❤️Visited January 2025Travelled on businessWritten 2 January 2025
- Sharon D2 contributionsJaw dropping views - Great for familiesThe views are extremely beautiful and the aspect above the trees magnificent, The gondolas are very clean and the environment modern. You can fit up to 8 in a gondola which is great for families. The staff are very friendly and professional. Both top and bottom points have facilities - bathrooms and a cafe at the top. Fun photos are a bonus. There are grounds at the top to explore as well.Visited January 2025Travelled with familyWritten 3 January 2025
- Erica TMelbourne, Australia54 contributionsGreat morning out with stunning viewI hadn't been here since it was updated... but it was great. Probably helped that it ended up being a beautiful day and the bay looked absolutely stunning. Fun little treasure hunt for the kids too and the cafe at the top had good coffee and fresh nuggets and chips to keep the little ones happy. Looking forward to visiting again soon.Visited January 2025Travelled with familyWritten 17 January 2025

New Arthur’s seat Eagle is awesome -so smooth to ride on and great that cabins are big enough to fit 8- great for families.
Highly suggest going from bottom to top as regardless if doing return trip you have to disembark at the bottom and reline up in the queue. No preference for people that have already started the journey. Depending on queues you could have to line up for a long time. If you go from bottom to top, at least you can walk around the gardens, enjoy the cafe etc and it is a more pleasant view and surroundings. Grandkids loved it and brought back many happy childhood memories

Having been on many Gondola lifts throughout the world, there is only one other (in Albuquerque) that would have rated better. By a very long way, this particular gondola is far superior to any other gondola ride offered in Australia or New Zealand, and at a remarkably (comparative) low cost, why not do it. As one travels up (or down) passengers are treated to wonderful bush and coastal scenery at a very leisurely pace. Very friendly assistance is provided by the staff who also ensure that there is an equal proportion of ticketed and returning passengers. Absolutely brilliant customer service.
The greatest problem associated with this wonderful attraction is the severe lack of car parking.

You’d better know what the ‘Eagle’ refers to as the signs leading up the mountain do not specify it’s a scenic chairlift. VERY winding and steep drive, but safe if taken slowly and sensibly. Look out views along the way are breathtaking.
Carpark itself has incredible view. Centre is modern and clean with toilets and restaurant/cafe options. Scenic chairlift itself is worth the money - goes slowly so you can take in the sight, and feels very secure and safe. Suitable for both elderly and small children.

It was an easy drive to the top, where they have a small cafe serving minimal food. Toilet facilities were horrid but we did enjoy a blocked view thanks to the positioning of the trees. I think one should def do the cable car ride for the view. It was a nice experience but seen better.

We went on a Friday and there were very few people around. No waiting for the cable car, but your ticket and hop straight on. We wanted one way and the adult fare was $23 and the concession fare was $19 the ride down took 15 minutes. Very smooth ride, the sun was out and there was no wind so it was an ideal day to do it

Don’t waste your time and money. The queues are almost impossible and the return ticket does NOT return you without queuing again!! No one tells you you have to queue each way- it’s quite ridiculous!! We queued for more than 2.5 hours (in total) for a 10- 15 minute ride (in total) .! Tickets for 2 adults and 1 child is $70! Not worth it! Parking is also a problem and very frustrating.

Waited in line 1.5 hours to get on gondola. Not a good experience.
8 person gondola and half the time only 2 people going up in it. Sometimes 4 but never full.
This is why the long wait. Coming down not so bad, about 45mts.
The area on top beautiful but spoiled by filthy public toilets, male and female. No garbage bins that I could see so people just dumped their garbage everywhere. Disappointed.
Brought ticket online hoping for an express pass but just had to wait.
In my opinion it’s better to drive up to the top of the mountain. Plenty of parking to be found

spur of the moment decision with 2 kids under 5 and we all loved it!! kids never sat so quietly as they really enjoyed the gondola ride. It was a beautiful day today when we went and being up there was a serene experience. I went on the old chair lift ride as a kid 30+ years ago and have many great memories so it was awesome to be able to share that experience with my own kids! Though i need to save $$$ to be able to make the most of the experience up the top of the mountain as the extra cost for the maze and adventure playground was a big stretch for our budget in these trying times

This is a weather dependent activity, we went on a very sunny day so the views were really good. If you park at the bottom car park then head up the hill you can enjoy the summit circuit walk. Grab a map from the guides before u walk outside and then head off. It takes about an hour and can get steep in parts. There are 3-4 look outs and the views over the peninsula area great. There is a cafe at the top as well and just a small kiosk down the bottom. If you have an entertainment book or small ideas membership both offer discounts on ride tickets.

Soaring down the summit, taking in the splendour of Mornington, Melbourne and surrounds beneath you, it's hard not to think: if only I could there were a bed and could live in this gondala.
Seriously though, if you live for zen moments, or just like to relax, Arthur's Seat Eagle is worth every cent. It's a leisurely trip with a gentle breeze and multi million dollar views. What more could you ask for?
We stopped off at the cafe before our descent. There's a good range of options - mainly pre-made wraps, sandwiches etc. The roti wraps were the standout I'd heartily recommend along with the scones if you're a fan of sweets. There's an option of purchasing pre-made picnics which I would probably do next visit. There's so many scenic spots to enjoy why not make a afternoon of it?
You can also purchase a group snapshot (with green screen background) if you like. This is the only way we ever get a photo of our entire group, without a photographer missing, so always a must for us.
Arthur's Seat Eagle is utterly relaxed bliss and should be on your itinerary if you're in the area.

Hi, just wondering if anyone’s done this one way? And if so, how did you get back to your car and how long did it take?
Written 4 April 2018
Sorry but the answer now is probably a bit late. I have only just seen this. You can go up in the chair lift capsule and then walk down. I asked the same question at Arthur's Seat. But I was told it's a walk through scrubby land and a bit precarious. So we came back down in the chair lift only to find, we could have driven up by road and back again, which we did do after the trip.
