About
Rising above the Mornington Peninsula, Arthurs Seat State Park is a prominent feature in the landscape of Port Philip Bay. The summit provides spectacular views which, on a clear day, can stretch as far as the Melbourne city skyline, the You Yangs and Mount Macedon. For a bird's-eye view, climb aboard the all-weather Arthurs Seat Eagle, a state-of-the-art gondola which soars high above the trees. There are plenty of activities to do in the park. From walking, jogging, photography, picnicking and mountain biking. The park’s most popular attraction is Arthurs Seat summit, where visitors can take in the stunning views while enjoying a picnic or barbecue. Take the pleasant circuit walk to Kings Falls or visit the delightful Seawinds Gardens.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

If you have travelled up to the summit either by car or gondola, then you are treated to a wonderful coastal view as well as an extensive picnic area. There are also a number of short walks in the area allowing visitors time to relax and survey the scenery before continuing on their journey. There is also an opportunity, if desired, to sit on Arthurs Seat (the third).

Rising above the Mornington Peninsula, Arthurs Seat is the most familiar of all Port Phillip Bay landscape features. Its 314-metre summit, reached by road or on foot, gives spectacular views of the bay and Port Phillip Heads. On a clear day the view extends as far as the city skyline, the You Yangs and Mount Macedon.
My wife and I drove to this place recently during our annual holiday in Mornington Peninsula. We have been here a few times before in the past and decided to visit again to enjoy the scenic views and walks.

Breathtaking views which on a clear day go for miles. Surprisingly we managed to easily get parking on a public holiday, probably because most people parked at cable car. Definitely worth a visit when in the area - it was a real treat!

Worth the drive. Stunning views are the reward for a short walk. The gondola ride is fun and allows for great views. The walks are comfortable while strenuous but very worth the effort. Staff are as great as the views.

Arthurs Seat has a delightful view over Port Phillip Bay. It's named after Arthur's Seat near Edinburgh in Scotland. The area surrounding the State Park is quite affluent. The cable car can take you comfortably to the top of the mountain, visitors can get a very expanive out over the Bay from the cable car.

What a real treat. Great views nice walks. Even with the weather cool, it was still a great visit. Chairlift wasn’t operating but the drive up was all ok. Not fit enough to walk. On the way back down lots of places to stop and admire the view.

We drove up to the summit and then walked about some of the outlook points all of which give great views although there was still smoke in the atmosphere when we were there so we couldn't see across the Bay. There's a good cafe up there for a snack and there are loos across the road from that. We noticed the gondola/cable car while there which we missed but it was closed when we visited due to the strong wind. Good conservation work going on there and a walk through one of the restoration areas. Lots of birds and we were lucky enough to see a young Kookaburra just feet away near the car park.

Beautiful park around the mount. If you are up to it you can hike up and down Arthur's Seat while watching the Cable Car gondola overhead.

How woul you assess the gradient for walking? Looking for reasonably flat walking space
Raj F
Sydney, Australia198 contributions
There is a reasonably flat walk around the top of the hill. There is a park and you can walk to the park from the adjacent car park. The views of the coast and surrounds can be seen without you having to encounter any gradients..
