The royal estate is now a presidential residence, open to the public and used at intervals to receive heads of state invited to France. It contains some magnificent examples of interior decoration, such as the marble chambers, the rococo decorations in the “Marie-Antoinette” apartments or those used by Napoleon in neo-Pompeian style. It is surrounded by a formal garden, canals and five islands. The visit includes the castle, the Queen’s Dairy and the shell cottage. Site with the "Outstanding Garden" label. Lovely place, totally recommend to visit the castle and then wander around the lovely parc which is open most of the time. Gotta say the grass is just great and there's many lakes and fountains... Recommend it for a sunny day tho.

Unfortunately the chateau was undergoing necessary restoration on our visit, so most of the external views of the architecture were covered up. However, I should imagine its beautiful. The chateau is situated at the end of the main street, just off the town square, in...More

The castle was under construction when we visited, but the gardens are beautiful. You can rent a boat for a ride on the lake or you can rent a bike/ kart to visit the garden

The Chateau is correctly under repair and not open to the public. However the grounds are open and if you are in Rambouillet, they are definitely worth having a walk around.

I you are in Rambouillet don't miss this castle. The guided visit is interesting. Moreover there are some unexpected modern furnitures in the guests rooms. The garden in summer is quiet and nicely decorated with flowers.

Well worth visiting the Chateau of Rambouillet if only for the grounds! The lake and the walks are beautiful. You will see the obligatory ducks but then you will see elegant herons in quiet locations.

Although at time of our visit in January 2016 the Palace was closed for refurbishment, we still enjoyed excellent park. One can walk there for hours and enjoy silence and tranquility. Take some bread with you to feed numerous ducks and swans. Exit the Chateau...More

While it is a treat for fans of history, the gardens are well-maintained and worth walking in! Opens early enough to allow visitors a quick view of the grounds before taking trains into Paris.
