Dating back over one thousand years, Chimay Castle has been the stage of many major events in European history. The 23 counts, princes and dukes who have reigned over the Principality without disruption since 1437 were often major players in these conflicts.

You can enjoy visiting the Castle and meeting with its past and present inhabitants thanks to a new, interactive multimedia tour and exciting 3D show. Other delights include a programme ofmusical events, held at the Castle Theatre.

We where a bit dissapointed by the village of Chimay. The chateau was nothing special too. When we wanted to visit it this first sunday of april; it was already closed at 15:00 hrs.. Wish we stayed longer in France this day.

Sir, We thank you for your comment and we are sorry for the inconvenience you experienced. On the first week-end of April, the castle was indeed closed to visitors. This exceptional closure was mentioned on our website but we totally understand your disappointment. Hope to welcome you in better circumstances in Chimay in the future. More

We visited but he highlight was actually spending time with the 90 year old princess (she was not part of the tour, but we stopped to talk to her outside). Lovely graceful who was grateful that two Australians sought her out for conversation

The chateau is still a family home, and the interior is gorgeous. Several rooms are open to the public, including a theatre where visitors can see an informative (if corny) 3-D video about its history. The Princess Elisabeth was there during our visit, welcoming visitors and answering questions. Guests are given iPads with choice of language, to use for a... More

Visited castle guides on tablets to allow you to investigate at your own pace. A video covers a brief history. We were very fortunate to see and talk to princess Elisabeth. She speaks excellent English an has an amazing sense of humour. An amazing building in which only 4 families have lived there. Well worth a visit👍

This is a great chateau tour. The iPad makes it informative for those of us who have no prior knowledge of this area or the families who live here. The 3D theater presentation was fun. We were selected to sit in the VIP box.

Although small this chateau is in the town of Chimay and extremely well organised. It has been well thought-out with i-Pads to use that can orientate to wherever you point them in the room. There is an excellent film show in the castle theatre at the end. Recommended highly

This is the €9,- worth, iPad-tour with augmented reality-features, a 3D-film in a lovely theatre. The owners really make you feel at home in their château. It has an interesting history which is explained in the tour and nice film. All in all, a must see when you're in the neighborhood.

So I'm going to write this in English instead of Dutch, so lots of people can understand what I'm saying, lol! When I looked this up, I read a lot of negative reviews, we almost didn't go because of that! But I'm so glad we did. What makes this castle so special is that the princess of Chimay, together with... More

Madam, We thank you for your delightful comment! Even if the Castle is still inhabited by the Princes of Chimay (and also the ghosts, but that's another story ;-)), we try to give our visitors a good insight of the events that were played in the Castle. Indeed the Princess Elisabeth comes every afternoon to see the visitors and her... More

The Chateau is very impressive and dates back to the 11th Century. The visual and audio guides which are run on iPads were really helpful. I will definitely be going again.
