The Sungai Merah Heritage Walk (i.e. that pathed walkway along river in Sg.Merah township) is a nice place to watch the sunset (and presumably the sunrise). The "no boating" sign is often ignored. The Wong Nai Siong garden is a little memorial to mark the river as the place where the aforementioned man first arrived with Foochow settlers in the... More

It is a small well formed garden which will have interest for some people and maybe not for others. It is located by a river and thus is a pleasant location.

I first thought this would be a sprawling garden of sorts. But it is not. All inscriptions on the wall are in Chinese with no translation or local tour explanation. Can give it a miss.

To outsiders, nothing outstanding about this memorial. The place is small but well-kept. However, it is an important memorial to the founder of Sibu for the future generations. Locationwise, it is quite out of town.

Our sponsor found his family name of the wall. It has a deep meaning to those from Sibu as these family members migrated from China after persecution. I felt as if I was on holy ground.

If you are not from Sibu and you are not a Foochow nor a Mandarin language reading person, this "memorial garden" would mean nothing to you in the absence of a guide. Set up in 2000 or 2002, the objectives were actually interesting. However the lack of explanation on site makes it meaningless to visit if you don't have a... More

Initially, I thought this was a sort of indoor memorial garden but was surprised it was an outdoor open air sort of garden. It was properly maintained and clean, apparently there was a great respect for this old man that the place was not vandalized. It was right in the middle of the Sungai Merah town beside the Sungai Merah... More

A natural, very quiet, peaceful and tranquility. A historical site for the Foochow Immigrants landed on 1901.
