Mount Lofty Botanic Garden is around 15 km (20 minutes) from Adelaide. There is always something interesting to see. Some of the vegetation is native, some is exotic. It's quite a wild area, you are likely to see some native animals, but please don't feeed them. By the way, Mt Lofty is the highest point in the Adelaide Hills, you will get a goodf view pver the city.

My wife and I live down on the plains, but several times a year we come up to the Gardens for a walk. Usually we come to the lower entrance and take a leisurely walk around the lake, but there are some interesting places to explore from the top entrance too. There is a small car parking charge, but usually ample parking. For a peaceful visit, avoid the weekends! There are toilet facilities near both entrances. We visit this past week, and my reflection is that it doesn't matter what time of year we go, there is always something beautiful to see. In fact it is good to visit in varying seasons. A nice café would be a good addition, but refreshments can be bought at nearby Stirling or Mount Lofty. The Garden has matured beautifully since its opening in 1977.

This botanic garden size is much bigger than the one in the city. If you are planning to visit Mount lofty summit, this botanic garden can be a very good stop over - you can see some beautiful native trees, and the lake. This garden can also be a day-trip for family, to bring the picnic basket and have a lovely outing.

The Mount Lofty Garden is in the Adelaide Hills. Mount Lofty tends to be a bit cooler then the city of Adelaide. Amongst other things, the garden has rose beds, camilias, azaelias, rhododendrons and orchids. The large cream mognolias are impressive. The Mount Lofty Garden is around 20 minutes drive from Adelaide'

This is such a lovely place to come and have a stroll, especially if taking a date. It's actually really quiet, very few visitors even in busy tourist seasons or during mad march. If you're going up to lofty anyway, then it is worth a walk around here. Another idea is to park near here and do the lofty walk backwards (down then up) which will help when waterfall gully car-park is completely full.

Hadn’t been to the Mount Lofty Botanic Garden for ages, so one warmish April afternoon we visited the Gardens. The Plan was to park at the top car park, go into the gardens turning left at the entrance. But we turned right. The plantations were wonderful autumnal tonings, vibrant and spectacular. As we progressed we realised the mistake we had made. The pathways became steeper and more difficult to follow. The views were fantastic. Was glad when we finally hit the bottom by the lake. Problem – car was back at the top. One of us had to go back, get the car then drive to the lower car park.

The Gardens are beautifully curated with a mixture of native and introduced species. The surprises in the gullies make for stunning photos. Watch out in this area as the above ground sprinklers can suddenly go on. Even though we made a wrong choice, the gardens did not disappoint. Next time at the top car park, we will turn left as the paths there are areas that are not as steep as the right side.

There are some really beautiful sections where additional seating could be provided which, together with more signage, could improve the experience.

Return? Most definitely ….. maybe try spring next year.

A magnificent Sunday outing that has turned into a Mothers Day tradition for us.Bring a picnic lunch or like us, pick up an amazing gourmet pizza from Jimmies Restaurant in Crafers main street on your way up the Mount. You can walk as little or as far into the park as you want an still find an amazing spot to plant yourself down and gaze around and rejoice in nature. If you want to feel, smell and see Autumn glory, you need to visit this wonderful garden. Best for Family, young children, teens, Friends, Couples and Solo.

I parked at the top carpark (there's a more popular bottom carpark too) and walked around the perimeter until I found the bottom large pond and picnic areas. A wonderful escape, peaceful. It got a bit steep walking back up to the top, but very pleasant nonetheless. Was not like a botanic garden that I expected - having lived in Sydney my whole life. The Syd Botanic Gardens are much more manicured, whereas the Mt Lofty Botanic Gardens are more wild, less manicured and much larger too.

Lovely almost natural gardens rather than the park like gardens of Melbourne and Sydney. We didn't spend long enough in gardens as a hot day and had to get back. We came from Mount lofty House and rememberer it's all downhill from there and quite a drop to the bottom. Thankfully we got slightly lost and only did about 3km avoiding going all the way to bottom as return uphill a bit hot and sweaty. Lovely Rhododendrons in bloom and interesting tree specimens. Signage could be improved

Mount Lofty is the high point of the Adelaide Hills. The Mt Lofty Garden is 15 km (around 20 minutes drive) from the Adelaide CBD. The Garden has a variety of flora, which attract native animals -- look, but please don't feed. The garden beds are quite lovely, Some of the plants are natives, some a from around the globe. Whether you're here for a leisurely ramble or a vigorous hike, you are likely to find something interesting.
