Only a few minutes from the main town, Ana Kai Tangata known by the locals as "the cannibal cave" has an interesting story: this from an article I read online: In 1914, when Katherine Routledge visited these caves for the first time, she found many...More

Nice cave paintings in this ceremonial cave. It is easy to visit on your own without a tour. The stairs are a bit steep if you are unfit.

We tried to visit this cave based on reviews here. There are signs there telling you where it is, and leading you to believe it is open to the public. However, after descending the staircase, were were confronted by a surly, young local park ranger...More

The trail to this cave was blocked, so you could see the opening to the cave. You cannot see the paintings. There is a great view of the ocean cliffs, but not much more than that.

Quick walk down to the cliffs and there’s a track down to the cave which has interesting artwork inside. It’s not very well sign posted, but apparently you’re not meant to go down there as it’s dangerous. Visit at your own peril!

As caves go Ana Kai Tangata is less than impressive, being basically a shallow undercut in a short cliff wall on the cost, and if it was not for the paintings that are in the cave, no one would bother to visit this location at...More

Another Rapa Nui cave not to miss! Ana Kai Tangata is just off the main ocean road close to the airport on way to Orongo. Look for the signs. It's a short walk to the ocean where you will see a staircase cut out of...More

We really liked this visit. Not as spectacular as some of the attractions, but this was a little gem with a very colorful coastal cliff view in the distance, beautiful breaking waves, lava tubes and rock paintings in a lava cave. We really enjoyed it...More

My wife and I visited this cave during our time on Rapa Nui. The steps going down to the cave and coming up from the cave are steep and a bit rocky. Just take your time and it is well worth a visit. The cave...More

My only regret is that I didn't time a visit to watch the sunset from the cliff top. I visited here twice - once alone by bicycle (within easy reach of town) and again as part of a guided tour. The ceremonial cave was used...More

Enchanting cave with ancient paintings. The stairs down are somewhat steep but in good condition. Park next to the park and hotel.
