About
We are Sealcentre Pieterburen, one of the oldest and best seal rehabilitation centres in the world. On our campus and field station live and work volunteers and researchers from all over the world. By our collective passion and multidisciplinary approach we form a learning community. We transfer our passion to the public and make them aware of our mission. For years we have a passion and take care for the seal, including its environment. A clean and healthy Wadden Sea is very dear to us. This unique piece of nature has the title 'World heritage' and we should treat it accordingly; for now, for later and for our children. This puts a great responsibility on as human beings and as a social enterprise. The role of the seal is crucial; it is the indicator of a clean sea. We measure, monitor, rehabilitate and share our knowledge. To keep both the seal and its habitat healthy and to offer our knowledge and expertise internationally.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

After 45 minutes I had seen everything. There were only 6 animals. Info is interesting but the building and decoration is outdated. Hopefully the new location will be nicer, bigger and a nicer attraction. Free parking at least.

An establishment with ample parking but not too many people, you can see baby seals (or teenage seals depending on the season) with staff ready to answer all questions. A short documentary on the life of seals in the Wadden Sea and English/Dutch displays to learn a little more about seals in the region.
Informative, interesting for my preteens, and not too expensive.

If you are from the netherlands you must have heard from Pieterburen and their Zeehonden Creche. If you are in the aera you must visit this place...once. It is smaller then expected and you can not come very close to the animals (after the visit you know why). The centre gives you good information about the current situation, the past and the future for these animals. Without this centre many seal would have and will die. Great for children. A bit remote...

We visited on a so-called VIP group arrangement of 16 Euros per person during a team awayday. We were received very well with outstanding coffee and outright delicious local cake in the pleasant cafe inside the sanctuary. Then we were given a good tour in English, including some behind the scenes views, by one of the professional staff of the Sanctuary, informing us well about the activities. We also saw the movie in their own theatre, which was nice too and available also in auf Deutsch and in English. Overall good excursion for about two hours much appreciated by our international group.

First of all, it is a rehabilitation center for seals not a seal park with attractions. If you keep your expectations realistic, you will enjoy.

I went on Sunday with my husband and very young children. To our surprise it was open, something rare in Calvinist Nederland.

We learnt a lot about this great work and how unsustainable tourism contributes to the suffering of the baby seals. We could see the seals close and how they are handled. It is not a big place but you certainly enjoy your view. The volunteers are very friendly and eager to inform.

There are activities for children. My 3 year old loved everything and refused to leave. We loved the film and everything was just fine.

The prices are very low in comparison to other places in Nederland.

We loved it so much, we ended up adopting a seal.

The seal rescue center is small and it took us approximately 30 minutes to see everything. The seals are very cute and for that reason alone it certainly is worth a visit!

For a really family friendly afternoon its great to see the seals recovering and being cared for so professionally and with great passion. Next door is a great place to stay in a converted church!

We visited Pieterburen on a rainy August day with our young family. There are some seal pools to view the seals and a small indoor play area. The exhibits are very much aimed at older children and adults. Still a lovely way to spend an hour or so.

This was one of those centres that ‘just growed’. It was started in the early 70’s as a simple crèche to rehabilitate sick and injured seals. It is now a professional scientific research-based seal hospital and is able to cater for various ages of sick animals. All seals are released into the wild after their rehabilitation period. There were not actually that many seals to see at the time of our visit and we didn’t really get the chance to see much in the way of feeding. We knew that feeding time was near, however, by the steadily increasing number of Seagulls gathering to pounce at the outdoor pools. Disappointing for us but we could see that it has attraction for school visits
