Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We hiked up and it was closed. We found a route that bypassed the gate and were able to climb the mountain along the fortress wall and get to the top. It was the least touristy thing we did on our Spain trip and my favorite. The view was fabulous! Review the history of the Disaster of Moclin. You will understand what a defensive fortress it must have been in 1200.

Stunning views of the surrounding country side and the Sierra Nevada.
We went to Moclin because a friend recommended the walking trail. There is an excellent marked walk between villages, but we arrived not wearing suitable footwear for the walk, which may be a bit challenging in plimsoles :-)
In any case we walked around the village and up to the castle to witness the stunning views and then we stopped for wine, and of course free tapas in the local bar, which was great value as is normal in Andalusia. We drove south out of Moclin and the route was fantastic. Lots of bikers on tour. I guess it is a great route to ride, with plenty of viewing stops.

The slaughter, referred to as the Disaster of Moclín, resulted in the deaths of over 2,800 Castilian-Leonese knights and soldiers and the deaths of most of the knights in the service of the Order of Santiago.
The castle and its remaining bastion and outer defences remain in part with a commanding view over the town of white washed houses.

The castle was all locked up - as were all the restaurants - when we visited Moclín. It was very difficult to find any information online about opening times so I would assume it’s only open in the summer....
