An unforgettable experience with the strange and fascinating camels, wild beautiful country and inspiring cameleers Karen and Paul and their wonderful crew.
Great meals around the campfire, fascinating stories of camels and cameleers,
special places for camps.
And those stars every night in the great silence.....
And always careful consideration of the needs of the 8 guests who shared this trek (even older ones like me.)

Hello and many thanks for your review. I loved how you expressed your experience. Camels although like familiar family members to us, frequently fascinate with their strange movements, and character filled antics. They are such a massive part of any trek, coupled with the country which is as you say Wild and Beautiful. We are super pleased you enjoyed the meals, campfire and stories shared; and yes those stars and the perfect silence. We love the opportunity to care for your group, young and old ... all are welcomed and valued. We hope to trek with you again in the future.

What a special trip into a harsh but fragile landscape. Handling and riding the camels was a personal and close up experience which I won't forget. The love and care shown towards the camels was great to observe first hand. The camels weren't just a prop for the trip, they were loved members of the team. Then whole team looked after all of the guests. They were interested in sharing their story and listening to how we all related to the camels and the landscape. I will definitely be going on another trip.

Hello and thank you for your review. I loved reading how you experienced the camels and our cameleers relationship with them. This is why we are there, it's not just the landscape, its how we journey with the camels that adds to ours and everyones connection to slowing down and exploring at a grass roots, or should I say 'deserts sands' level. Thank you for joining us and we welcome you to return in the near future. Thank you!

This was my second adventure out into the desert with Karen and Paul and, most importantly, the camels, and again it was wonderful in every possible way. The scenery is beautiful beyond imagining - endless horizons, utter peace and quiet and total escape from all the pressures of city life! The accommodation is comfortable, the meals excellent, the staff friendly and supportive but what makes this company stand out as a trekking business using animals is the love and care shown for the camels. They are at the very heart of the experience and the care given to them is returned in their gentleness and calm in interactions with visitors. If you want to have an amazing experience in Outback Australia and fall in love with a camel, I totally recommend Camel Treks Australia.

Excellent. One of my best walking / camping experiences. Highly recommended. The landscape was beautiful. The camels fascinating. The food excellent. Walking and riding each day over the land just to the east of Lake Torrens was exactly what I wanted. Sleeping in the swags (really small tents that can be rolled up with pillows and sleeping bags left inside) was comfortable. Karen, Paul and their team made us very welcome. They are a group of very impressive folk. It is not a surprise that some of the people on the tour were return customers... and they clearly regarded themselves as returning friends.

My son and I did the 9 day trek, and he thought it was one of the best experiences of his life. He loved getting to know all the camels and helping to look after them. I also loved getting to know the camels, but other favourite parts of the trip for me were the sand dunes, Lake Torrens, the night sky (and the lunar eclipse), having the best sleep in the swag, the tasty and nutritious food and strengthening my connection with my son.

Hello Sophie, many thanks for your review and most importantly for joining us on one of our 9 day treks with your beautiful son. The trek you both joined was extra special thanks to the lunar eclipse and expanse of Lake Torrens. We really enjoyed your mutual enthusiasm for the camels and welcome you both to join us again as junior cameleers should you ever feel the need to reconnect. Thank you for sharing you experience of the sand dunes, night sky, sleeping in the swag and meals; it was an absolute pleasure for us hosting you both and additionally seeing the close connection you share with each other, which is evermore vital in todays technology driven world. We here believe time spent together in nature will pay surplus dividends!

This trek truly showcases the Flinders Ranges in a unique way. I had not travelled to this area of SA before and was surprised and in awe of its sheer beauty! Karen is so inspiring, passionate and knowledgeable in respect to her love of camels and this countryside. Along with husband Paul, and all the cameleer team, Ed, Violet, Sophie and Ben, so much effort was put into giving each individual the best experience possible. Every detail has been considered. You will be amazed by not only the beauty and sacredness of this land, but by the love and care given to the camels and to making sure that you have a safe, comfortable ride. The food was delicious and there was always hot water boiling for a nice cup of tea or coffee at the campsite. I really loved hearing Karen’s heartwarming stories of past adventures around the campfire - not to be missed! The most beautiful sunsets I have ever seen and will never forget! An unforgettable experience! SA should be so proud of this company!

Thanks to Karen and the team for a fantastic adventure! We were lucky enough to make it in to SA just before the borders closed due to covid. Despite heavy cancellations by others that weren't so lucky however, Karen managed, last minute, to reschedule other guests so our trip was still able to go ahead. We were very impressed with the whole operation, from the care and attention both the camels and guests receive through to the equipment and management of the logistics, providing comfortably and generously for groups in a remote setting. Would highly recommend.

Many thanks for taking the time to review us, this is greatly appreciated. We are so pleased that during this time of lock downs and border closures we were able to welcome you to our lifestyle and back yard. Thank you also for your recommendation. We hope to continue to welcome Aussies during what is a time when everyone needs a holiday getaway perhaps now more than ever.

I loved riding and learning about the camels, their history in Australia, their management. It was great to experience this historical travel at first hand and see how Karen Paul and crew managed camels so calmly and gently. As I'm interested in geology and archaeology it was stunning to see this area close up - the dune plants and animals and Lake Torrens -places I only hoped to read about. The guest group were so learned, conversations round the fire were stimulating and quiet riding and walking gave time to reflect. And I loved the delicious healthy meals. And the fantastic music and thanks so much to the crew especially Sophie.

A truly AMAZING experience.
How many days in your life will you go to sleep looking at the night sky from the confines of your cozy, warm swag and wake to have breakfast, brush your camel then head off into the outback for the day? How many nights will you sit around the campfire sharing stories of the day, eating delicious food and laughing until you cry with strangers that quickly feel like old friends?
I feel so grateful to have completed this adventure (one I added to my bucket list at age 14 and completed at 50) and could not have felt more safe, cared for or truly catered to while doing it. Everything was perfect and I’ll carry the memories of this 5 days with me for a lifetime.
A huge thank you to cameleers Ed, Viv & Ben and support team Greg and Di for your care and support and a heartfelt hug to Karen & Paul for making it all possible.
If you are considering this trip just book now - you can come back and thank me later!

The most wonderfully recharging, relaxing, and total getaway I have ever had. I longed to leave behind time/date/pings and tings and it delivered this and more. The 8 night trek was a great amount of time to fully absorb into the rhythm and stunning beauty of each sunrise and each sunset.
Words cannot explain the desert colours, and the way the colours can change over an evening.
There is also something super special about being able to see from horizon to horizon in every direction. Breathtaking

Hi, I am doing some writing about camel treks and would really like to know what you ate on your 9 day trek. What sort of food was available to you and how was it prepared and cooked?

Hello Naomi, Many thanks for your enquiry with Camel Treks Australia. I believe that the food we serve on our private guest and school camps cannot be compared to any other outdoor company. We have a massive focus on fresh fruit and vegetables served with whole grains and legumes. Two key staff have attained their 'Food Safety Supervisor' certificates with a Nationally recognised training organisation. This means we are compliant and aware of using hygienic practises for food safety and participate in safe food handling practices. We do not trek with any perishable ingredients that cannot be keep stable in our large portable coolers. We also work with a fabulous transport company who delivers to us even when we are remote in outback south Australia. Hence every new group or guests and students we meet is experiencing a new supply of produce. Essentially we serve every seasonal fruit and vegetable with options such as rice, millet, quinoa, hot naan breads spiced by us heated in cast iron pans. All cooking is done over the fire or coals in cast iron cookware. You might like to read through our earlier testimonials as the food we serve is often mentioned as a positive and unexpected highlight. Salads with avocados are a daily must! I hope this information has been helpful. Please do not hesitate to continue your enquiry via our email address accessed from our websites home page @ cameltreksaustralia . Sincerely, Karen / Owner Camel Treks Australia
