Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This dam is relatively small but we reckon it'd be quite deep.
Motorized vessels are not permitted on the dam, so all canoes or kayaks only.
Theres walking trails from wall carpark (they can be long) lots of bbqs and tables around if you want to have a lunch. If not, few cafes nearby you can try... Secrets dining looked amazing but busy.
Lovely views all around. Was more peaceful from the maleny entrance than on the montville side. Windy roads too!

Visited Baroon Pocket Dam in October 2020 and was able to see it from various viewpoints from Maleny and Montville. Regrettably, the dam was at a very low level due to lack of rainfall in the area. Well worth a visit to the area.

A real gem of a place to “discover” whilst driving around the hinterland area between Maleny and Montville.
Driving to the Dam area is not difficult and when arriving there are bbq’s, covered eating areas and a few tracks to walk.
Only non-powered craft are allowed on the dam.
Also there is the Secrets Dining on the Deck restaurant and accommodation chalets, which at the time we were there was very busy.
Really enjoyed this deviation from our intended route.

Visited on Wednesday 3rd August. This was my first visit to Baroon Pocket Dam and what a great spot to have a walk around. Plenty of parking and picnic spots to enjoy with toilet facilities as well.

We were looking for a gas Bbq to cook our sausages and thought that the dam would have them in the picnic area. We arrived at the very pretty dam and could see the Bbq in the distance. But Murphy was tormenting us and the Bbq was out of order. We took a bit of a look around and then decided to head off.

Baroon is also accessible, and in my view nicer if you come here via Maleny, especially for recreational purposes.
My interests here are Photography and Fishing.
The reason for my title is that although these waterways are managed by Seqwater, they are SIP (Stocked Impoundment Permit) Dams.....
Now these 2 Departments don't actually communicate between each other. If you Google search for Baroon you will get Seqwater as the first two finds (you won't see Dept. Agriculture and Fisheries anywhere).
In the Recreational Guide it'll state that A PERMIT IS NOT REQUIRED HERE. But earlier this year the DAF got greedy and changed that ALL SIP Dams require a permit (which they also changed from 'If there was a permit holder you can take a family member with you' to '1 permit per person'..... gotta Love our Government).
I was caught out around July (2016) for not holding a permit and explained, that in all my searches before fishing here, it was not required, and would be happy to purchase one immediately on my mobile phone. Regardless of this and the SMS confirmation, they still made me wait until I received email confirmation and administered a Fisheries Infringement Notice (no charge, but still a recorded offence), I later disputed this with the Department and requested that this was a warning infringement, not an offence and should be removed from your records. It was finally accepted in October.
This is Dept. Agriculture and Fisheries Disclaimer from there site:

We went for a drive to the dam expecting to be at a lookout overlooking this lovely place. We took the short walk to see the slipway(?) where the overflow of water runs down and were a little disappointed to be only able to see part of it. Not very high point to get the best advantage. The dam itself is lovely but not a lot of vantage points to get the best view.

Baroon Pocket dam is worth a quick look and is a tranquil spot for a picnic.
The water level was quite low when we visited.
