BE AWARE
Aug. 2021 • Friends
I am going to start with the good things about our experience at Flame Hill.
The young man who served us for our wine tasting was very upbeat and reasonably knowledgeable about the wines. He hadn’t been there very long but he knew his wines.
We enjoyed the wines, in fact one friend who doesn’t like Chardonnay was very complimentary about it. The Marsanne was very good. (We only tried the white wines as I can’t drink red).
BUT, when we decided to buy 6 bottles between us, we were each charged $10 tasting fee on top of our purchase! The wine is not cheap (the average bottle is around $40), and all the vineyards we have been to have deducted the price of wine tasting off the amount when you buy wine from them. There is no way in the world that we drank the equivalent of 3/4 bottle of wine and one friend who was driving and stated this right at the beginning had 3 sips!
My main problem with this wine tasting is that there were no signs telling us that the tasting was going to be $10 each, (from what I have read on previous reviews the price is variable) nor were we told at the beginning of the tasting and for 3 sips of wine this is extortionate! Also we bought wine from them. We all said when buying the bottles what we thought about being charged for the tasting. We all paid but it left a bitter taste in our mouths.
My driving friend e-mailed the owner to express her dismay about this but the reply was extremely dismissive.
We all enjoy wine and would like to support the local wineries but in this case we feel ripped off and won’t be going back to Flame Hill Vineyard, nor will our friends who we have told.
This is sad as the wine is good but we don’t like being taken for mugs, hence the 2 star rating.

Lunch with a stunning view and fantastic service
Jun. 2021 • Couples
We had a delicious lunch at the winery, a shared cheese platter, then Thai pumpkin soup made from pumpkin taken fresh from their garden that morning. We had their white wine to go with lunch, really nice wine. Then followed up with blueberry cheesecake with a chocolate crumb, which also was delicious. The view over the rolling hills was breathtaking. But the best part of the day was the service, we were served by Alyssa who was so friendly. Highly recommend a visit here.

DO NOT BOOK HERE
May 2021
We had a terrible experience here!! Would never recommend! Poor service, overpriced platters ($226 for 2 small platters and 3 pieces of cheese...it was actually a joke!!) they double booked our accommodation on our hens night, then we were left to scramble to find somewhere to stay so the bride could still enjoy her weekend! The only offer from the owner was a house (barely moved into) where one of us would have to sleep on a couch! Couldn't give us a refund on the day "apparently", then when we contacted for a refund of accommodation costs, owner decided it was our fault and hung up...rude, unprofessional and I still don't know how this business is surviving on such poor service! DO NOT BOOK HERE! So disappointing - if I could give negative stars I would!

Do not wAste your time or your money!!
Wish I could give less than one star! Worst "experience" not that you could call it an experience.. we were seated outside poured a choice of 5 mouthfuls of wine with no explanation or description which was followed by the next and so on. The tasting lasted all of 5 minutes and were asked to pay $20 each! Not $10 which they offered to those seated inside, which unfortunately they couldn't accommodate our group size so we were penalised for this fact...Disgusting!!

Disappointed
Apr. 2021 • Friends
It was a disappointing experience- such a beautiful location and a lovely set up. Unfortunately, like others, we found the wine tasting to be lacking in customer service, wine and product knowledge. And to charge double for outside seating is an interesting idea. We sat for ages after receiving a couple of tastings from our five. After asking about it, and with the manager listening and not intervening, we paid for one tasting and walked out. We wanted to enjoy this experience, but left disappointed

Disappointing wine tasting
Apr. 2021 • Friends
Went for a tasting today - $10 charge at cellar door. We asked to sit outside, they said it would be an additional $10 per person for the same tasting. Wine ok but only had the chance to taste 2 wines (when initially told 5 were including in the $10 tasting) and then waiting 15 minutes between wines before leaving due to lack of service. Disappointing as the grounds are beautiful.

Lovely wine but disappointing
Apr. 2021 • Couples
We were excited to discover a winery we hadn't yet visited in the region and Flame Hill does have some lovely wines. The tasting experience was ok, very conservative pours and little about the wine itself that wasn't on the tasting notes. Because the wine was lovely, I bought 6. It's not cheap, starting at $40 a bottle, and to have an extra tasting fee added on top diminished the experience for me. It's the usual custom to have it redeemable on purchase. I think with a little more customer care this could be a really lovely place to visit.

Nice wine, Average experience
Apr. 2021 • Couples
The wine was good. We bought 6 bottles, spent $270 on wine, yet the cellar door still charged an additional $10 fee for tasting.
This is bad practice and will put off return customers.
Standard practice is for a tasting fee to be redeemable on purchase. When I asked about this I just got confused looks from the staff.
The wine is nice, but I would not recommend the experience at Flame Hill cellar door.

An A Frame sign needed at the gate thanks

Could have been better!
Jan. 2021
Beautiful location, fabulous set up and delicious wines but unfortunately tasting was completely disorganised. I think mainly because the front of house person was completely run off his feet. It would have been nice to have learned a bit more about the wine and we probably would have purchased more bottles. In the end we decided ourselves on a Moscato which was very delicious and paired beautifully with some triple cream brie we had!
