It's a long, steep climb up the mountain from the coast, but the road is manageable, at least as far as the church. All the more remarkable to discover that this was once a substantial and important city, rivalling Falassarna. Interesting remains, with helpful explanations....More

Need quite imagination to see a city that was there. A couple of reconstruction pictures may bring it to life. But the views from the top are amazing. Entrance is free. Car can be left on the village. Trail takes you around site regardless if...More

If you can get hold of a guide locally, the whole area becomes way more than any brochure can tell you. If you've got the American guide called Stephen, bonus, he knows his history and where to go! Indiana jones lives ! Polirinia is as...More

There is not much to see of the ancient city but the views from the top of the hill are completely “jaw dropping.” Best time to visit is just before sunset when it is not too hot and the light is glorious. Not very busy.......More

Hidden up in the hills above Kissamos, the drive to the village was the usual Cretan hill road. The village itself was beautiful, with the information cafe run by a lady who, whilst living I Crete for 14 years, used to live only 6 miles...More

Once in a while you get to a place that cannot be forgot. Polyrinia is such a place. First, the view from the mountain top (the drive is a bit tricky, but do not let it deter you) is absolutely beautiful. Next, the ancient ruins...More

A wonderful site the church especially. The information office is better than many so called professional sites. The hamlet reflects the ages past and the archeological remains allow you to see former glories in your minds eye. We'll worth your time and effort.

We came across this town by accident while looking for the Sirikari gorge and what a wonderful accident. Sadly Crete is not blessed with beautiful villages but this is definitely up there. The information centre was excellent with a very clean WC (several in the...More

Just a short drive from Kissamos town centre- up the hill on narrow roads, but worth it. The inhabited areas of Polyrinia are charming, little old places snuggled into mountain side, with evidence of ancient ruins all around. Walk right through and up the hill...More

Getting to Polyrinia will require a car as it is high in the mountains. I'm not sure whether there is a bus service up there. A taxi may be another possibility. Adrian
