We had lunch at Wandin as part of a day tour with Vineyard Shuttle Service, and immediately booked a dinner reservation. They did not disappoint- the food is top class and gourmet, they accommodated Gluten Free without blinking and each course was a taste sensation. The price was very affordable and the food was more of an experience than just eating out. The drive out was easy and picturesque and worth the extra distance from the Cessnock/Pokolbin centres (just 10 mins from the Crown Plaza). Highly recommended as a dinner destination in the Hunter region.

Today we visited Wandin Valley for a wine tasting, Emma, Leona and Laura and the team at the cellar door were absolutely amazing. Their hospitality, warm welcome and add on’s (you must try the cheese platter) made our wine tour! With the highlight of the day visiting Wandin. We have lived and worked in the Hunter Valley for decades and people like Emma, make vineyard visits an absolute pleasure. I hope the owners at Wandin see the value in their people and reward and recognise success for the business.

We had friends visiting us locals for the weekend and with so many restaurants fully booked weeks in advance due to COVID occupancy limits, we thought we would give Wandin a try. We were just so pleased with our choice!

There are 2 options available, a 3 and a 5 course menu with a number of choices within those options. We opted for the 3 course menu and were blown away by the standard and the presentation of the food.

I had the salt cod for first course, the others had lobster bisque which were both delicious. I had duck for my second course and cheese for my third. All were excellent.

Tim, the front of house waitperson provided outstanding, friendly and seamless table service.

Our Sydney friends were very impressed by the quality and the value for money.

Would highly recommend to our local friends and to visitors to our beautiful Hunter Valley.

Charged a tasting fee and their wine was no better than other so save your few dollars and stop at places that are free to taste. If the wine is good people will buy it. if you have to charge a tasting fee probably a sign the wine isn't worth buying.

It was a Saturday night and ours was a last minute booking but when we arrived we were a little concerned that we were the only diners. However the ambience was welcoming and the tables looked beautifully set. Our meal began with an entre of calamari (shared) which was disappointing - it was not the light and crispy Italian style we anticipated. Our mains however - swordfish (special) and lamb rack were delicious and well presented with vegetables included. A shared dessert of sorbets was excellent. All up we felt very special to have an attentive waitress and a personal chef and we really enjoyed the night able to chat without the distraction other tables.

We visited the Wandin Estate for my daughter’s Wedding on 3rd January arriving the day before, we started off with an Afternoon Tea in the Pavilion and a Cricket Match on the cricket pitch. The following day was the Wedding which was held under the shade of the eucalyptus trees, it was stunning and the Reception was held in the Pavilion and it all looked beautiful. The last day was spent in the Pool as the temperature had risen to 48oC! And the water temperature was 31oC! The Villa we stayed in (Isabella) was both spacious and airy. The pool was directly outside and surrounded by the most lovely views, there were even wallaby’s grazing nearby. It was the most amazing Wedding in the most gorgeous location. Thank you Wandin.

Seems not very organized. Put all the requirements in online booking and called to confirm, nothing got organized: no outdoor table for us, no high chair...

Ordered the tasting plate, not impressed. The steak was good though.

Seldom can you find a winery that soothe all kinds of eclectic tastes. Wandin fits the bill. Beautiful wines, red, white and sparkling. A lovely tasting bar with knowledgeable and well-trained staff. They answered our questions, were personable and made buying the wine fun and easy. We joined the VIP club and can’t wait for our new wines to arrive!

And it just went downhill from there....

This was the worst service I have ever experienced. On entering we were asked if we had a reservation (nothing wrong with that) but on answering that we didn't the waitress turned to her colleague in front of us and said 'can we take these walk ins?' Not very welcoming. We're the seated at a table directly under the speakers while there were at lease 15 other empty tables. The waitress then came to put cutlery on the able and asked us twice which was the left side so she could put the cutlery in the right place. We then ordered 3 plates and a glass of wine. I ordered a glass of Riesling. 3 times the waitress said 'what?' Am I speaking in a foreign language? Then when she asked me if that was a red I realised she did not know what a Riesling was ..... And this is at a winery. And then.... We waited. And waited. Received one plate of food but no wine. On asking for the wine the waitress said 'I don't know, I didn't take that order' and walked away. We watched as the waitresses went to each other table and apologies for the forgotten drinks or late food. That was enough for us. We walked out in disgust. Such a shame because this place used to be good, but in the cafe they clearly had no idea what they were doing.

We drove in on a sunny Sunday for lunch with friends and couldn't clearly see signs for restaurant. Ended up driving down to Cellar door to be grumbled at that "you're in the wrong place it's up the stairs!"
We went up and into the restaurant which looked pretty and were greeted by the host "house ya goin'". We sat down and waited for friends to arrive. The Cellar door person came up and joined the restaurant staff and started gossiping about how guests can't read signs. We almost got up and left.....and then our friends arrived, which broke up the staff's gossip time. This situation was totally unprofessional.
The food arrived and was less than satisfactory. Had been cooked earlier and reheated in the microwave. I had the confit duck (dry) with beetroot risotto (wet and tasteless) and horseradish cream (a vague sense of horseradish present). My husbands mushroom linguine was appalling and should never have left the kitchen. I asked who the chef was and the reply "Tim's on tadaay".
Wandin Valley, pick up your game in both quality of food and service. The wine was good, the views were great but overall disappointing.
