Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We are back in Oz after a 3 year absence and back in Hunter Valley after a 10 year absence and came to Capercaillie because my Dad always rated the Ghillie Shiraz as a favourite of his. We decided to opt for the $5 tasting and we were not disappointed as the wines and the sommelier service and explanations of each wines tasted, were all excellent. The Semillon and Verdelho were a particular favourite with my wife both being fruity yet crisp and flavoursome and my favourite was the NV Chambourcin. We bought multiples bottles of each and would recommend Capercaille to any visitor to the Hunter Valley. 5 stars.

Friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable staff. A great selection of whites, reds, rose and sparkling on tasting - cost $5. Highly recommended when visiting the Hunter.

Tip, given there are capacity constraints these days (due to Covid-19), I’d recommend calling ahead to book - particularly if you’re getting into the busier holiday period.

My family first experienced the Capercaillie Gewurztraminer yesterday afternoon at lunch at The Cellar restaurant Pokolbin and had to find this place. Don’t miss it - their wines are gorgeous- and unassuming Pat is the perfect host - explains the wines beautifully then lets you just relax and think about which ones you truly love. We will definitely be putting this beautiful winery on our favourites list for the Hunter Valley.

We recently visited Capercaillie Winery as part of our wine tour.

Tina was an exceptional host (15/10 for her service). It is obvious that she loves her job and is passionate about wine. She was really friendly, funny and knowledgeable.

To be honest, the wines weren't the most flavourful in my opinion. They weren't bad (far from the worst wines I have tasted) but they had quite a mild flavour. We did end up purchasing a bottle of Moscato though as it wasn't super sweet and tasted refreshing - it will be perfect on a warm summer afternoon.

There was the standard $5 tasting fee per person that was waived when purchasing a bottle.

A short walk from the back of the Crowne Plaza Hotel. We tasted 8 great wines, and Tina our host was very pleasant and knowledgeable. Tastings are free, but wine purchases are relatively expensive. We enjoyed our visit.

Bron was so knowledgeable about the Capercaillie wines, and offered the right amount of info to our group. We were seated comfortably, taken through each wine in a leisurely way and offered cheese and crackers as well as chocolate to complement the wine tasting experience. The addition of a little lemon juice to Moscato on Bron's advice was amazing! The wines were excellent, and we even tasted the more select and expensive wines such as the Ghillie 2014 Shiraz.
I can't recommend this experience enough but be sure to book a private tasting for the ultimate experience!

We called into Capercaillie winery on a winery tour. What a pleasant experience. Our host for the group made the experience one of the best. Get knowledge and a very aussie flare to the presentation. I'd highly recommend this winery if you are in the area.
