Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My family first experienced the Capercaillie Gewurztraminer yesterday afternoon at lunch at The Cellar restaurant Pokolbin and had to find this place. Don’t miss it - their wines are gorgeous- and unassuming Pat is the perfect host - explains the wines beautifully then lets you just relax and think about which ones you truly love. We will definitely be putting this beautiful winery on our favourites list for the Hunter Valley.

Great wines, fantastic staff and Pat was excellent. The chardonnay is exquisite, the semmilon is just as good and the verdelho is also recommended.

Our first visit and we will go again. Really friendly staff, nice set up and great wines (think we left with 15 bottles!).

By far our favorite winery. Excellent set up for tasting. Each person is sat in front of a place mat with glass spots to let you know what you’re drinking so you get to taste a bit of all they had to offer. Free to taste. Loved the set up and bought heaps of wine.

Friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable staff. A great selection of whites, reds, rose and sparkling on tasting - cost $5. Highly recommended when visiting the Hunter.
Tip, given there are capacity constraints these days (due to Covid-19), I’d recommend calling ahead to book - particularly if you’re getting into the busier holiday period.

We recently visited Capercaillie Winery as part of our wine tour.
Tina was an exceptional host (15/10 for her service). It is obvious that she loves her job and is passionate about wine. She was really friendly, funny and knowledgeable.
To be honest, the wines weren't the most flavourful in my opinion. They weren't bad (far from the worst wines I have tasted) but they had quite a mild flavour. We did end up purchasing a bottle of Moscato though as it wasn't super sweet and tasted refreshing - it will be perfect on a warm summer afternoon.
There was the standard $5 tasting fee per person that was waived when purchasing a bottle.

A short walk from the back of the Crowne Plaza Hotel. We tasted 8 great wines, and Tina our host was very pleasant and knowledgeable. Tastings are free, but wine purchases are relatively expensive. We enjoyed our visit.

Our group of 10 had the pleasure of having a private tasting with Tina and she was a great host and she gave us our highlight of the day when her sister walked out with a ukulele and they both sang happy birthday to my wife followed by an amazing rendition of Girls just want to have fun.
Really nice wines as well as some cheese and biscuits to go with the tasting.

Thank you Tina for marking us so welcome. Even gave a coffee to our miserable designated driver. Great wines, great value and a wonderful host! Best of luck for your wedding.

Visited this winery over the last weekend and were very impressed with the standard of its wines. The staff there really know there stuff and are friendly and happy to help. If your really fortunate and Tina is on the Cellar door ask her to sing you a song she has an amazing voice. If you in the Hunter make sure you stop by it’s definitely worth a visit.
