Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

4WD Fun . Good views. Let your tires down and climb the beast.

We arrived on dusk and had a lot of fun watching the sun go down while relaxing on the sanddunes. It was a bit of a party atmosphere as everyone was enjoying the view and taking photos. The wind was strong so I’d recommend bringing some to protect yourself from sand in your eyes.

Well worth the drive out from Bird. One of nature’s stunning attractions. Views from the top are amazing.

A must do when visiting Birdsville! You can do a tour which includes a town drive and wine and canapes or self drive!

Our tour bus took us to the base of Big Red where we hopped onto a Brahman bus with Alex of Big Red Tours who was quite a fun character & looked after us well. His bus easily climbed to the top of the dune where we enjoyed drinks and nibblies while watching the glorious sunset. Also able to witness a few 4WDs testing their skills going up Little Red and Big Red from the western side. Fly nets were essential while up on Big Red. We were also able to see the moon rising in the east just after sunset, before descending the dune with Alex again. A very enjoyable time.

If you are passing through Birdsville, Big Red is a must do experience. We went twice - once during the day and another time to watch the sunset. Despite being an inexperienced 4WD driver, I drove my 4WD up Little Red but was not brave enough to attempt Big Red. Both are easily walked and the views from the top are outstanding. The sunset was brilliant, enhancing the red colour of the sand dunes while we sipped on a very good white wine.

Did the Big Red Sunset tour - enjoyed the white wine and nibbles as we watched the sun set. Prior to setting off for the Big Red sand dune, which is ~40-kms outside of town, we were taken on a quick tour of the town.

We had a great time watching 4x4’s challenge the dunes as the sun went down. We walked off down the dunes for some solitude - and found it.

Take a fly net, flies are savage.

Fabulous Sunset Tour. Beaver, our guide, was knowledgeable, very helpful and an absolute character. Sunset was stunning but moonrise better. An unforgettable experience.

The highlight of our Birdsville time. We drove out and walked up Big Red (as we were the only people around). Walking along the sand dunes soaking up the views was brilliant.
