Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

One of the most scenic LOTR location :) Easy to find- no need to take any tours. I bought lord of the rings movie set location book in DOC station in Queenstown and found directions there. Amazng scenery even if u re not a movie fan.

Brilliant lookout with spectacular nature & colours, especially enjoyable by people who have watched the lord of the rings and can relate to the place. The white gravel on the river bed is absolutely amazing and adds to the beauty of the scenery. A camera with a good zoom is a must. Allow about half an hour for the drive and visit from Glenorchy.

I personally wouldn’t drive all the way here just for this, but if you’re a huge LOTR fan you might, as this is the filming location for Isengaard, especially when it was drowned. This is as far as the roads go in Glenorchy, anything further will be gravel roads. I only came here because I had some time to kill before the sheep shearing show at the Glenorchy farm. I’ve seen some people take better photos than I did here. So maybe some of you can post them here!

If there is an actual lookout here, we couldn't find it. Drove around some and ended up on a pretty road but couldn't find a lookout. Maybe if you're hardcore Lord of the Rings, you know what you're seeing there, but we didn't.

Great location for a visit and look around the filming location for several scenes from the tv series One Lane Bridge a spooky murder mystery police series filmed around Queenstown and Glenorchy the dart river bridge featuring as the main location

It's a bit of a drive to get here but it's worth it, and no matter the weather the scenery is stunning. You have to park on the road or can park in a small turning alongside the bridge if there's space.
Also, we timed it perfectly late morning as we saw two speedboat trips go along the river and under the bridge.

Classic NZ one way bridge over a wide stretch of the shingle bed of the Dart River.

Not only the scene of the Isengard Lookout from LOTR but the titular location of the NZ police drama “One Lane Bridge”.

Worth a trip out from Glenorchy. Stunning scenery.

Amazing views!
Great to see where some iconic shots were filmed from Lord of the Rings.
We were a happy pair of nerds.

Nice easy drive out from Glenorchy and you can go down next to the river to get some good photos. Only one problem was the little bities. Not sure what they were but we got bit a few times. Might just be the time of year? Excellent viewing from here :)
