Ricardo gave us an enthusiastic and delightful tour of the underground cisterns, fountain, dovecotes and passageways. Although we don’t speak Italian, we managed to understand what he explained, and had a very enjoyable tour. Highly recommended!

A lady called Barbara (voluneer and unpaid) gave us a huge amount of background info on how the Ecrusians first settled in Orte and built the water gathering system which was then vastly enlarged by he Romans who conquered the town. Thank you Barbara!

Our guide was Riccardo, and the tour was in Italian. We totally recommend this tour, beside the amazing experience of going underground and walking through the ancient aqueduct, it was a simple, yet professional and informed, introduction to the history of Orte and the region....More

As part of our visit to Orte we took the extended underground tour of the water ways of Orte in the Etruscan period. Amazing how elaborate the Etruscans built the first water ways and equally amazing to see how the Romans in turn perfected these...More

On the surface alone, Orte is a fascinating and charmingly quiet hilltop town but, much like the grace of a swan, there is significant industry below the waterline! I cannot praise the efforts of the archaeological teams or the town for its working bringing more...More
