Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A lovely shrine flanked by some old trees. Part of the Kumano Kodo it is well worth a visit. There are several structures around.

This important shrine is at the edge of Takahara town along the Kumano Kodo. Don't walk past it, stop and have a look. It's very beautiful with ancient trees and lovely painted wood. Stamp your pilgrim credencial here as well. There are two entrances either will get you to the same place. Just don't miss it!

This is one of the oldest shrines in the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage and is found in the lovely mountain village of Takahara. If you are doing the Kumano Kodo, do not miss a chance to get a stamp for your booklet from this shrine.

At the top of the ridge, this ancient location point of worship is currently marked with a beautifully painted Shinto shrine. The huge camphor trees give you an idea of how long this place has been venerated and the many interesting details of the building make it one of the more unique shrines along the Kumano Kodo Trail.
This wayside attraction is included in the definitive book about this segment of the Kumano Kodo, "The Nakahechi Trail; A Glimpse of Old Japan," which is available on Amazon. If you're headed for the Kumano Kodo, this book is a good introduction to the experiences which await you on this ancient pilgrim's path.

This shrine is obviously well cared for. It's beauty is enhanced by the wonderful ancient camphor laurel trees around it
