The lake cruise to Chikubushima was wonderfully cooling in the August heat, though it was too hot to climb to the top. Nice way to spend a morning or afternoon

Stayed on the shoreline in sight of Fuji. The weather was hot and humid but lovely to swim in one of the oldest lakes in the world! It was August not October

Beautiful spot away from the heat of Kyoto and seemingly rarely visited by gaijin tourists, this beach has shade from trees and nice water for swimming. It is only 50 minutes from Kyoto on the train and there are food shops, changing rooms, toilets and vending machines. In the summer the beach is obviously popular. There are jet skis outside... The water Biwako is clean and clear, and is surrounded by trees, mountains that make up a rich fauna and flora around you. A perfect place to relax and do.

Just 45 minutes by train from Kyoto, the amazing beach of Omimayko beach can offer you an amazing day off. Great nature around and some nice bars where to get something to eat. More than recommended!

Lake Biwa is large and the experience you get depends on whereabouts you stay since there are many towns surrounding the lake.

Suitable for people who loves nature and photography. This place is much more beautiful during hanabi (firework-watching) in summer.

During the sometimes excruciatingly hot days of the post-rainy season Kyoto summer, a trip out of town to one of the beaches along Lake Biwa is an option to consider. By train, the easiest beach to reach is Omimaiko (43 mins by Japan Rail Kosei Line from Kyoto Station platform 3). Exiting the station, just follow the main road towards... More

There are neaches on the southwestern shore, shadowed nicely by pine trees. There are very few cafés, the place us rather crudely organised. No decent toilets. Two small restaurants serving simple dishes, but drinks easily available in the ever present vending machines. We where there on a hot Sunday, the great BBQ day for families, which made the atmosphere rather... More
