This is a huge park so prepare to walk a lot. When you go from Center Gate, you straight can see the front of the Tower of Sun. Since I go in December, there's not many flowers to see, but insides have some small museums with free entrance, we still have fun in there.

On our last day in Japan, we wanted to go outdoors. What a great choice it was, to visit the Expo '70 Park! We walked through woods and meadows, waded through small rivers, visited the mall for some great shopping, but best of all, climbed the Beast - the world's largest athletic tower and a challenge for all ages. Too bad the Park closes so early...

Arrived at the park at 1pm and left at 6pm (because the park officials were already ushering us out and it was getting dark). In the 5 hours we only managed to spend time at the tulip section and 2 playgrounds in the Natural and Cultural Gardens so this review is mainly based on this. Wished we have arrived earlier to enjoy the whole facility. There tulips were magnificent. The other sections were also beautiful but we couldnt stop because time was rumning out. The Garden itself was huge but still comfortably walkable with my 2 and 4YO. Loved the huge open fields and there were plenty of scenic picnic spots - under blooming trees, on top of small hills, next to the beautiful stream.
Some tips:
1. Transportation - if you have a JR pass, find your way to Ibaraki Station. There is a JR bus stop just next to the station. Take the blue & yellow bus that goes towards Minamikasugoaka (there are english signs at the bus stop). Get down at the Minamikasugoaka bus stop (written in english at the bus stop) which is 8 stops away. Fare is 220yen and you pay when you get down from the bus. Coming back you take the same bus from the bus stop across the road. Bus was frequent (less than 10mins interval when we were there). Entrance fee to the garden was 250yen for adults.
2. Food - I would suggest to bring your own food because the prices in the cafes inside is quite expensive eg 450yen for tofu udon (less than 300yen outside).
3. Picnic - if you are coming from the east gate, I would suggest going all the way tp the tulip section before deciding on your picnic spot. We decided have our picnic in the area before the tower of the sun ans then later discovered that the areas ahead were more beautiful.
4. Timing - come as early as possible to be able to enjoy what the garden has to offer. Most of the attractions (aerial promenade, foot soaking) closes at 4 although the park officially closes at 5.

We really enjoyed this park and felt it was worth the price of admission as well as the transportation to get there. The cherry trees were in full bloom and that was certainly the highlight. There were a number of vendors selling food and crafts. Although festive, the atmosphere was much more sedate than in the other large parks we visited for sakura, and this park was not crowded. Aside from the cherry trees, open spaces, and pleasant walkways, there are gardens planted with other flowers. The tulips were in full bloom when we visited and that was a welcome surprise. Irises should be flowering later in the summer and it seems likely that there will be something in bloom throughout most of the year. N.B. One caution with regard to transportation. An easy way to go is to take the Midosuji Metro Line (Red) in the direction of Senri-Chuo. Senri-Chuo, station number 8, is the end of the line. However the Midosuji Line actually ends at station number 11, Esaka. The last three stations and the tracks to get there belong to and are serviced by the Kita-Osaka Kyuko Railway. You stay on the same train and the only thing different from having it all a part of the Midosuji Line is that you have to pay 120¥ to get out of the station so that you can get to the Monorail station. It is not a lot of money but it was confusing, there was no posted explanation, and it took a while to understand why we had to pay when we had an all-day subway pass. The same thing happens when you return to Ōsaka except you pay the yen when you enter. You will obviously have to pay more to exit at your Metro station unless you have a pass. The Monorail ride was straightforward.

I went there today. Perhaps this is the first review after the earthquake. When we arrive the station near the main gate, some train staff showed us a sign asking us to enter the park via the eastern gate. This means we need to get back onto the train for another station. Watch out for these notices when you are about to leave the station.

I visited Bampaku Park on a sweltering afternoon in late September. It was lovely but my energy gave out far too early and I left without making much of a dent. I enjoyed the modern art sculpture and the pathways near the Tower of the Sun. My daughter lives in Osaka and has visited the park often and says it is very pretty and very different with the changing seasons. I would love a return visit to the park on a cooler day!

This park is huge and spacious. We spent a couple of hours exploring the entire park. I love the relaxed landscape and nature - seasonal flowers, trees, green and pond as we leisurely stroll the area. Not to be missed is the Japanese garden, depicting Japanese landscapes of different periods. Though it is a bit out of the city central, it is worth to visit this former Expo park if you have half a day to spare.

The park is accessible by taking monorail from Senri-chuo Station. Need to purchase entrance ticket with 250 yen per person which is worth for the price. Cherry trees are in full bloom and lots of locals enjoy their picnic under the trees. By the time we visit the park, there are some vendors selling fruits and vegetables, food and beverages.
A lot of activities suit for family. The park is very big and you might need to spend few hours to explore it.

It's a spacious ground for a leisurely walk and a picnic. In the sakura season it could get busy. There are also peach trees and tulips in full bloom when we visited in early April. All in all, great spot for a great day out.

I spent about five hours here, exploring the many attractions this park offers. We saw the Tower of the Sun, took a free foot bath in the forest spa (heated by biomass energy), strolled through the gardens, saw markers where the Expo '70 pavilions used to stand, strolled through the separate Japanese Garden, had a delicious lunch, and visited the Expo '70 Pavilion. My friend had visited Expo '70 as a small boy and it brought back many memories. I wish I could have visited Expo '70, but this was the next best thing.

hi. I will be in Osaka on april 7, can I still see beat of Sakura in Expo 70 by that tume?
