We only stayed for one night at Shiraishi Island, which was a mistake.... Easily could have stayed for a week. We came from Hiroshima and were in touch with Amy from the Moo Bar before our arrival. She provided us with all the transport information, booked a ryokan for us and answered all our question, which was super helpful. We... More

特に観光地があるわけではないが、ゆっくりとした時間が流れています。海水浴場もアクセスが悪い分、渋川や沙美ほど混んでないです。 Nothing special, just ocean and slow life. If you want to relax, this is the place.

One of the best things about this island is the Moooo bar -- and not only if you stay on the island. The owneers helped us out when we were in a financial tight spot (because of trouble using Maestro cards in Japan), without asking for anything in return, or even accepting any financial reward. If this bar can make... More

such a nice place to go, very unlike the rest of Japan as it is not so over developed. lots of activites like kayaking, swimming, walking, sunbathing to do. there is a small food shop and alcohol shop. sea water is a bit dirty. would definitely recommend!

Shiraishi Island is a popular getaway for Japanese and Foreigners alike. The community that lives here is small and adheres to traditions stretching back in time. So if you want a chance to relax and get away from the go-go nature of Japan's cities, this is your spot. Do: Bring a swim suit Flip Flops Beach Towel Fishing Gear Shoes... More

This is some years ago now (summer 2010, not 2013) but I wanted to share my experience because it was a really lovely place. My friend and I had travelled there with no accommodation, no plans, nothing... fortunately, we met a lovely Japanese pair who had booked two villas at the International Villas establishment overlooking the beach and they kindly... We spent just one night on the island but it was wonderful. The beach is perfect with a beautiful sunset and from the other end we could see the sunrise as well. Really crystal clear water and lovely atmosphere. Sea sports and good food, drinks available. Amy Chavez, the famous author, lives on the island and runs the Moooo bar... More

This little island is so warm and relaxing. I thought it doesn't really feel like you are actually in Japan when you are on this island. It has a distinct rustic atmosphere, and you can totally relax here. The beach is very nice, the locals are friendly and welcoming. If you want to spend lazy, cozy days away from the... More

Shiraishi Island was a complete unknown quantity for us as we planned our honeymoon travels around the central south west of Japan. But it felt right to make the trip and I'm glad we trusted our intuition. This place is beautiful! Peaceful, social, laid back - definitely a different taste of Japan. Touching base with Amy (expat) from Mooooo Bar... More

This is my new favorite place in Japan. We brought our 2 young boys here for the weekend. Amy recommended we stay at the International Villa which was great. The porch overlooked the quiet sea and we were a very short , beautiful walk to town, beaches or hiking. The beach had a relaxed atmoshphere and my boys enjoyed the... More
