This place seems to be famous as the sacred place of the movie "My Happy Marriage" which was released to the public in March 2023. We visited without knowing this and were a little surprised at the number of visitors than we expected. This place is composed of Japanese and Western-style buildings, and the view of the garden from the "study" in the Japanese building, which was used as a filming location, is quite good. The main entrance has a "convex roof" and the onigawara (ridgepole tile) has an "anchor mark" on it, which gives it a very naval mansion feel and is very rare, so we recommend not to miss it.

毎月1回、第一日曜日のみ公開です。コロナで長期間公開されておりませんでしたが、2021年11月に公開が再開され見学。全体的に和館ですが、一部洋館のつくり。東郷平八郎が居住されていた当時を思いながら見学させていただきました。

専用のアスファルト駐車場は１５台ですが、道路沿いの空き芝生に駐車してる人もいて、通過交通がある道路ではないので問題ありません。

日本の一番長い日、など映画のロケ地としてもよく利用されています。今応接室においてあるソファーは、海上自衛隊舞鶴地方総監で利用されていたもののようです。受付などは地元のボランティアの方で運営されています。毎週見れるわけではありませんので、調べてから行かれるといいと思います。自衛隊桟橋バス停から少し距離があり上り坂です。四季折々の景色があり、いつ行っても違う表情を見せてくれます。和洋折衷の建物です。事前予約不要、入場無料です。

東郷邸と呼ばれますが、鎮守府長官の公邸で、最初に住んだのが東郷平八郎大将だったんですよね。

東郷平八郎が初代舞鶴鎮守府長官として赴任した1901年に建てられたもので、今年4月から毎月第一日曜に公開されています。時間は10時〜15時。1月だけは第二日曜。
私は舞鶴広域観光公社が募集した舞鶴まち博特別企画「自衛隊施設めぐり」で元自衛官の案内で9月20日に特別に見学しました。
広大な敷地に建てられた100坪の和洋折中の邸宅は軍隊らしく華美ではなく、縁側に座り庭を眺めると大変落ち着きました。
100年前の建物が月1回とはいえ見れるので、また落ち着きに行きたい。

東郷平八郎が舞鶴鎮守府の初代司令長官として生活した官舎跡地です。一部は洋館ですが、一部は木造平屋建てです。現在も舞鶴地方総監部の会議室として海上自衛隊が運用しています。見学も可能ですが、１か月に１回のみ、第一日曜日の１０時から午後３時までだけです。

写真は自由に撮れます。雨上がりだったので玉砂利が光を反射し植木の緑も素晴らしかったです。どれほど豪華な邸宅なのかと思っていましたがとても質素で落ち着いた雰囲気でした。

場所がいまいち不明でしたので、民家の方を尋ねてお聞きしたところ、その方は親切にも道を教えてくれた後から、マイカーで追いかけてくれ、邸宅前で色々と歴史やら最近のことやらを教えて下さいました。当然、東郷邸に入ることは出来ないことは想定内でしたが、自撮り棒を伸ばして隠し撮り（申し訳ありません）程度しか出来ませんでした。それも中途半端な写真になってます。親切な方の話によると、東郷閣下はこの邸宅に要人を招いて接待されていたそうです。直ぐ近くに将校官舎がありましたが、子供の世界にも階級を示す線の数が絶対らしく、その官舎に入居される将校も少ないとの事でした。
