1st stop on the passage to Unzen from Shimabara. Close view to Fugen mountain that erupted in 1991 including good information about the mountain before and after eruption. Good view to Shimabara and the bay area.

This is a nice stopping point enroute to Gokanosho (which is really the main highlight). we got out for some quick photo ops and toilet break before continuing our drive. you need to pay 100 yen to enter this road.

Walk or drive! Take a stop here to take some pictures. Overlook the volcano and learn the history of eruption.

Well worth doing the pass to get a view of the other side of the eruption. Pleasant views out over the plain.

The area is good for hiking, autumn colors. Else, there's little else. I didn't see a cafe. There was a small shop selling some local souvenirs, dried vegetables etc.
