The day we visited Mt Misen fog enveloped the hills, so we only got fleeting views through the mist. However, on a clear day it would be amazing. We walked up to the start of the rope way (there is also a shuttle bus service - tickets available opposite Iwaso Ryokan) and caught the two cable cars to the summit.... More

Overindulge in the many food samples in town below and then have a good hike up the mountain to make yourself feel less guilty (or just for the views!). There's also a ropeway option that will take the work out of the journey - much more crowded than the walk, so you may want to consider a one-way trip.

I took the cable car which was a little pricey but worth it. You have to walk about 30 to 40 mins to get to the observation area. Fortunately there are a few natural stopping areas eg temples, eternal flame etc. If it's a hot day remember to bring water. Once at the observatory the panoramic views are spectacular! I... More

It's like 1.5 hours to go to the top of mount Misen (hiking). Once in the top is worth it! After the hike you can descend by the trolley

We walked to the summit from the ropeway station thinking it would be an easy short walk.... it turned out to be much more of a hike than we originally thought but that was one of the great things about it, we navigated the terrain and people and finally made it to the top (after a stop at the shrine)...... This requires some energy. Even from the top of the rope way it is a decent climb to the top so one needs to be in reasonable shape. If not there is a good view from the top of the rope way but it is only 180 degrees . To appreciate it all, you need to clamber to the very... More

The spectacular view from the observatory at the very top is worth the climb. Make sure you check the time at which the actual observatory closes, and allow plenty of time for crowds if you are using the ropeway. In the leaflets, the times for walking ar rather optimistic (unless you are a fitness freak).

I would recommend going as early as possible to avoid the crowds on the cable car sector. The actual walk to the top is not crowded though. A reasonable fitness is required as it is very steep.

We took the cable car up and then walked the rest of the way to the very top. We were rewarded with 360 panoramic views across Hiroshima and neighbouring islands and mountains. Steep walk with lots of steps and slopes takes about 40 mins from the cable car. Wear suitable footwear.

If you're very fit you can hike all the way to the top of Mt. Misen, or you can take a cable car up most of the way and hike the remaining distance (uphill, so still requires a bit of fitness) to the summit where there is an observation platform to relax and take in the glorious views of Hiroshima,...
