Rarely over-crowded, this allows the tourists a way of discovering a more traditional way of life. Only takes about 30-45 mins to view.

The Miyajima History and Folklore Museum was amazingly good (the bathrooms offer nice views of the Tahoto Pagoda too). It starts with a cold dark storehouse with a stone floor, the room full of enormous pots that could fit people inside, jars, wooden buckets, cauldrons, old tools and saws. All piled together with the only space between being a path... More

This museum was a nice break in our afternoon. The film has English subtitles and has a thorough overview of the Itsukushima Shrine, it's history, festivals and how it stands in the water. The preserved home and garden are also pretty and give a good idea of what a full tatami house looks like.

We found this museum very interesting. There was a helpful video screening which gave some valuable history about Miyajima. It is set in beautiful gardens. Worth a quick visit

We happened upon this museum with a little time on our hands. I am so happy we stopped in for a visit. We had not researched island history so it helped us gain a better appreciation for the rest of our activities on the island. Definitely worth the stop!

We got here by pure chance - it was raining and it looked interesting, so we went in. Even if we were the last customers, they treated us with a lot of respect, like everywhere else in Japan, and gave us the time we needed to explore. There are a number of interesting things, like he explained inside of a... More

I see this place as a historic place, and the museum of a history. Unfortunately, the information displayed is very minimal, so it is difficult to explore the meaning of history there.

This is small museum, but interesting. There isn't a whole lot of english, but it's charming and I enjoyed going thru it. There isn't much folklore, it's mostly local history. There is a really interesting film that shows how the shine and tori gate were built that I found facinating.

and not that interesting either. It features a lot of... big wooden spoons! It was nice but I wouldn't go there especially since there's so much to see in Miyajima!
