Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This beach is located on the southwest cost of Portugal in a nature preserve. Virtually untouched landscape. Rolling mountains paired with a long shallow beach was paradise to see. We spent the day lounging and surfing. If you forget to pack a picnic there is one "beachside" restaurant. That goes for surfing as well. Arrifana Surf School is located directly on the beach. They offer lessons, wetsuits, and boards. We love this beach.

Living in Portugal for 10 years, I know and love all of the beautifull spots of the western Algarve!
Arrifana is beautiful! Fact! Even with all the surfers it's still a gem on the Costa Vicentina!
If you're driving to or from Lisbon to the Algarve drive down the coast, you won't be disappointed!

Beautiful large and chill beach, lots of surfers, not very big waves, good for a whole day at the beach

Fab beach, more rocks and stones in winter, but now all year just too many surfers.
The local councils need to start regulating the surf schools and limiting, surfer access. This also applies to Monte Clerigo and Amoreira.
Soon families will not be able to get near this beach. I have been around this area for nearly 30 years and surfing is getting out of hand. Local cafes make very little from the surfers as the surf camps provide most things.

It’s the second time I’m reviewing this beach and the reason why has to do with this year’ experience.
I couldn’t believe my eyes, when I’m arriving Arrifana surroundings and the place was packed with cars.
Then, while arriving the beach I couldn’t believe the number of surf camps operating at the same time, taking over the beach completely…
I’ve had to refrain from taking my own board in as I hardly had any space to paddle my way in….
I mean, Arrifana surf schools are wonderful and they should continue operating in the area, what isn’t so great is the lack of regulation on the number of schools operating at the same time in such a limited bay .
I love this beach and I fear this year’ scene is a prelude of another damaged Algarve spot.
Please use this beach with care!

It used to be a pretty and not too busy beach. It is still pretty, but thanks to over advertising it and a so called "Use it, preserve it" theme which includes a shuttle running up and down all day, this Arrifana beach is more and more becoming a tourist attraction than a spot to relax. "Commercialize it, destroy it" can be printed on T-shirts and stickers, soon.
Countless surf camps and schools turn up and crowed the beach.
A couple of years ago, I would have given a rating of 5, now it´s a plain 2.

I have surf here. Very nice. Also the water is clear. Good view on the top to watch the sunset. But there can be a lot of people at the day

This is a beautiful beach on Portugal's unspoiled west coast. The best thing to do is to park at the top and walk down the narrow road to the beach itself. It's great to sit and watch the surfers for a while and enjoy the sun. Highly recommended.

For me it was the first encounter with the ocean - the view from the cliff is great, the sound of the waves crashing - amazing. Topped off with a tasty sea food lunch in one of the nearby restaurants - an all in all amazing day out
