志木市指定の文化財の馬頭観音

July 2019 • Solo

荒川の土手の内側にある馬頭観音像です。菖蒲沼の、とありますので以前はこのへんは沼であったかもしれません。天和3年(1683年)の銘と「宗岡村念仏組」とあります。古い物ですが、しっかりしており美術的にも価値のあるものです。牛馬の供養のために建てられただけでなく、当時の念仏の信仰対象であったかもしれません。

天和3年に造立された刻像であります。三面六腎の像であります。400年以上も前に作られた価値あるものですね。

荒川土手下の河川敷

荒川の土手を散歩している途中に「馬頭観音」を見つけた。志木有形民俗文化財に指定されているらしい。「三面六臂」３つの顔と6本の腕を持つという意味らしい。1683年に造立、美術的にも大変価値の高いものだそうだ。回りは田んぼで何もない。
